K&N air filter
i thought this would be helpful for a future search by some noob. well i recently try to clean my K&N air filter. in the directions it said to "oil liberally". well being the noob that i am at cleaing filters, i really over oiled it, i mean dripping oil on both sides.
it does say to oil one side but darn me, i didn't read it all the way or i have selective reading.
well, my question is, "is there a way to remove excess oil from the filter?" so far what i have done is do a search and came up with a guy who said stuff it with paper towels and then wrap it with paper towels, put it in a plastic bag and let it sit over night. i guess my second question is, "is there any other way?"

Letting the paper soak it up could be good, could try a pressurized air line BUT it could end up damaging the filtration structure of the filter... I would go with the paper method at the moment and see how thar fairs over night... unless you can put it on the end of a drill and spin dry the thing? :S haha

so in the op i said i i stuffed it with paper towel and tied it inside a bag. well i asked some friends of mine who are very smart and they said put it in the refrigerator, with the paper towels and the oil will be pulled out into the paper towels. i let it sit for 8 hours. and i took it out and man it WORKED!!!!! well, i put it on and man it feels petter now. i can easily hear my vtec again. the oem and the dirty K&N didnt make this good of a sound when it hits vtec.
well for anyone doing a search for over oiling, here the answer. but feel free for anyone else who has something to share on over oiling. (no crap about using K&N vs OEM)

I use the KN spray can to apply the oil.Let it soak in for about 5 min & wrap in towel for a few min to absorb the excess.
If it's really soaked, use a leaf blower for about 30 seconds to blow out the excess.

I have been using k&n drop-in filter a week after I bought the s "nissen"around 42 miles-22,850 miles now. I have to clean it every year due to the j's racing carbon snorkel brings in a lot of cool air=dust & dirt from the outside. Also, I have a 2005 honda crv-ex with drop-in k&n filter at about 37,000 miles. Just follow manufacture instruction and advise above from members. You'll be fine. My car stills idle smoothly and hit v-tec without issue. Trust me you will know if you are over-oil the k&n filter, it will drips oil toward gravity
^yes, well i too have a snorkel. and yes you will definitely know if you do, oil will start dripping if you lean it to one side. also, ONLY OIL ONE SIDE!!!!!!
well, the op was about ways to de-oil it when you over oil the filter.
