Default K&N Apollo

Anyone ever try the K&N Apollo universal CAI? From the specs it looks like it would fit and it comes with a long enough tube to feed it to either upper engine bay/fender hole (should get good air flow there if the front fake vent is cut out). Both the feeder tube and TB side are 70mm.

Anyway, it looks like a pretty simple CAI and it's pretty cheap. It also comes in a few colors.

Here is a video review of it.

I have a CAI. It is the K&N Typhoon that pipes down to the pass side fake vent that I have cut out. It works great but I don't like that it is so low to the ground. The lower you get the more dust and water the intake will be exposed to.

I didn't mind cutting out the fake vent but I didn't like cutting the inner fender liner. I'll be getting a new liner once I replace my current CAI. I was looking at the FIPK and Comptech. Either of those will work great but the Apllo looks good, cost less and appears that it would be just as effective in getting colder air into the engine. I also like it's simplicity.
I did a good amount of searching and this intake seems to work well for a number of other cars but I just have not heard of it ever being used on an S2k. It is so cheap that I may just buy it and give it a try. If I do I'll post more info.

If the Typhoon is like the AEM V1 (filter on a stick), then you are currently getting a nice resonant boost at around 3500 and 6500 RPM's. You would loose that with this other intake.

Having been just forced by traffic to go through a deep puddle in an underpass, no way would I mount an intake low on this car.

I don't think that extension would work well... it is not a smooth flowing pipe. the s is a hard car to improve on. it's not a civic where 40 bucks in hacker mods will give you 20-30 hp....

who told you $40 can get 20-30hp on a civic.............................. plz do not discriminate. the 8th civic has a k20 engine. even the best intake can only get 10hp and it will cost $450-500. i/h/e hfc flashrpo can only get 25-30hp. those people dont have $1000+ exhaust, but they dont put $50 exhaust on their cars. we are in a honda family.

I aggree that Honda did a great job to start with but you can improve without spending too much. My current CAI feels and sounds way better then stock. I didn't dyno it but K&N did. Sure everyone will discount it and even if I posted my own before and after people would still discount it (that is just what people on this forum do). All I know is that it works. Either way, I don't expect more then a few HP gain anyway. The only reason I want a new CAI is because I don't like my intake being so near the ground (aside from that I couldn't ask for a better intake). And I sure as hell don't want the oem intake box there as I don't think Honda did a good job on it. It is too big, heavy, restrictive and susceptible to heat soak. The stock intake should have looked something like the Comptech, simple. I'll prolly end up with the Comptech or FIPK in the end. Neither cost too much and seem to work well. Just thought I'd ask about the Apollo...

to maximize air flow i would probably just go with a K&N FIPK and run a snorkel that will sit infront of your bumper and take in all the air coming at it and directing it directly to the FIPK. That would probably be your best bet and its functional.

just my .02

Why do you think airflow is insufficient with the fake vent in place? I've seen a few people with similar posts but nothing concrete to back up that claim.
