Default Koni Yellow on daily driver

Hi all,

I noticed about two weeks ago that my front right shock has been making a clunky noise when going over bumps. I assume my shocks are pretty much gone since I now have 64000 miles on my MY2003.

Looking at prices, replacing my shocks with OEM is going to cost quite a bit of money. Since I wasnt really looking to spend money on suspension right now, I would like to stay cheap. It looks like the Koni Sports are nicely priced and somewhat popular around here.

I don't track my car, but I do sometimes drive spirited. I plan on using these shocks with the oem springs, but would like to use the 2nd perch when installing to give myself a bit of a drop. I am using ap2 v1 rims. Will this be a nice setup for me?

I am worried about the lower compression since I have heard from a few people that the car can really dip forward, and sometimes even rub the front lip. Is it recommended to have Koni re-valve for "autox"? Can I do this directly from Koni? What are the benefits?

Sorry for all the questions, but I need to get this sorted out soon.

Thanks!

I have the set up you are planning on, exactly. Koni Yellows with stock springs on AP2V1 with a UK alignment. Also still running the RE050 rubbers. I love the set up, you're lowered, but not too low that you scrape everthing. The wheel gap is about 1 inch. Handles really nice, I have the font set on 1/4 firm and the back on 1/2. When I go to the track, I do 1/2 and full.

The only crappy part is adjusting the rear driver's shock. The stupid gas pipe is totally in the way.

Thanks for the info littlerocket. I am curious if you have any thoughts on whether the konis offer a stiffer, better setup then the oem shocks. Also, did you have your shocks revalved for "autox".

I woud love to see some pictures of your car with this setup if possible.

Thanks

I don't know about better, but the Konis give you adjustability

it could handle worse if you don't know what you're doing and it could handle better if you know what you're doing

Well I talked to koni today and they want 160 each shock to re-valve them for "autox". That is a lot of money...

if you're just using it for daily driving, it's not really worth having them custom valved unless you're serious about A-Stock autocross.

If you PM me your email, I can email you some pics. I don't know what revalving would do, unless like some said you are really serious. In which case you'd probably gut the car and stuff.
