Default Lifetime air filter?

Hi all, If this subject has been brought up before, I couldn't find it. I'm shopping for a new intake and like the AEM v2. They claim that their synthetic element filters down to 1 micron and that it lasts a "lifetime" ! Am I really supposed to believe that this filter will never get dirty??!!

If the AEM filter is one that you can clean yourself, there is no reason why it wouldn't last indefinitely. I've been using an Italian Sprint filter that I clean with soap and water. Got it here 5 years ago in a group buy. It's been great!

That filter looks BA! Is the fitting on the end for a vac line? I looked at the description again and no mention of it's washability...

If you're referring to my Sprint, that front fitting is exactly like the OEM filter's. It fits into a hole in the bottom of the stock air box tub.

the aem filter is a synthetic filter that you never have to throw away. just clean it with soap and water when dirty. i've seen this filter over an open flame and it did not burn at all.

Why would you hold it over an open flame? Also why would it be fire resistant? So when you lose a $100k race car, at least you still have your filter?

lol obviously EOE, but really its probably just a side bonus of the filter, it does make it more lifetime if it doesnt burn

It may look like your K&N but the Sprint Super Competition I have isn't related to K&N at all. I didn't find the Italian site during a very quick search (although in years past I did). But I did find a British site that carries the some of the line and provides some good details.

http://www.brspecialtuning.co.uk/Sprint%20filters.htm

Some excerpts:

Sprint have making high performance filters for cars in Italy since 1952.
Their top of the range is the Super Competition which is a SPECIAL DRY POLYESTER type. This is made from an accurately manufactured fine micron mesh which filters more of the dirt whilst also flowing more air. This filter is of particular benefit to the modern fuel injected engines where the oil from the ordinary high performance filters can damage the sensitive air flow meter after prolonged use. It can be cleaned more easily and reinstalled immediately thus saving the cost of the specialist cleaner and oil and works out cheaper over a longer period, plus the added benefit of improved air flow means increased power.
