The 7.5 in length really doesnt matter that much. It could be a little longer. There is plenty of room. What matters the most is that the outside is not too small or it will fall into the air box instead of stitting on the rim of the opening and sealing it. You might be able to make a rubber gasket that is the same size as the Mugen filter base and then attach a filter to it. Good luck

Hey guys, guess what? I found the scrape paper that I wrote on and good news! Found the part no. for it too and looked it up. Looks like it will work!

Here's the part no. E-0940!!! and link http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...px?Prod=E-0940 Enjoy!!

Note: Seems like the K&N is a bit shorter in height but I doubt that will be the problem.

Hmmm.. I said it "looks" like it will fit. Anybody want to be the guinea pig? It's only like $45-50 at pep bosy I think.

I think the inside diameter is too small on that filter. A while back, I did a quick cross reference and found that the one for the F150 was similar in size, so I took the one out of my F150 and tried to fit it but the ID was too small....IIRC.

The link I posted is for Mustangs. Don't knwo if that really matters. Also, I got a measure of the inside diameter from an ebay seller who sells the Mugen style intake. These are his exact words, "inter diameter (connect to factory hose) 3.25 inches". So, given the measurement based off of k/n website and ebay seller, both seem to have the same inside diameter. Look at the k/n website and read the 2nd line under "Part E-0940 Product Specifications". It also says 3.25".

The thign that gets me though is the base outside diameter. K/n's filter is 6.5" and the ebay filter is 7.75". That could create a problem there I think.

If I had this intake I would definitely pair it up next to the k/n filter at pep boys, unfortunately I don't. . I know, I'm being a little cheap here but I'd rather not use the filter provided by the Mugen style intake. I was going to just buy the real Mugen filter (not the whole intake system) and just slap it in there, but for $170+, man I don't know. Lol.

I would love to have a Mugen style intake but i think the K&N FIPK would out perform this. What are your thoughts?

i'm not exactly sure on that coz at higher speeds i pulled away from a comptech owner with only a stock airbox + snorkel. most ppl say k&n and comptech are the same in performance. that's why i can't justify goin out and getting an intake like k&n, comptech, and/or prm when a stock airbox+snorkel works better. even the race bred s2k's use stock airbox + snorkel and for good reasons. and btw, i'm coming from an aem v2 owner. between airbox+snorkel and v2, snorkel pulls sooo much harder.

but thanks for bringing up my original post lol. i almsot forgot bout it. yeh i still haven't gotten the mugen style intake yet because of the filter. and plus, i'm quite content with the snorkel i have in atm. but damn it looks out of place, that's my only problem i have with it.

anyone know a cheaper alternative for the filter for the mugen style intakes? i.e. a K&n filter that fits but not perfect.

I ended up using a comptech foam filter and clamping it to the velocity stack. Somebody else recommended it so I tried it and it's been working OK so far.

are you talking about the foam filter that they use for their cai intake for the s2k? if so, do they sell them separately and are they reusable? thanks.
