Default New Build

Hey folks

I'm looking at starting a new build from a bone stock '06 S2000 with 46k miles on it. I want to do FI build with either turbo or supercharger from Science of Speed(havent decided - no need to hash out again... to much info on it already!).

Regardless I was going to start by upgrading the exhaust and fuel system with larger injectors and fuel pump and possibly switching it over to a return fuel system.

I've read a lot but haven't actually ever done this kind of thing before so I have a few questions

Is there any reason not to simply put the largest injectors I can, say 2000cc, to give myself overhead room to build the car into or is there a disadvantage as the injectors get bigger?

What is the disadvantage/risk of converting from the returnless full sysyem to a return style fuel system?

Any recommendations on an exhaust system which will allow me to have the top down and still hear myself think?

Thanks for your input. I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions as I go!

+1 on dual Q300 (get the rolled tips one..looks almost OEM)..i liked it so much i bought second one when my first s2000 got written off.

It will be loud at first but will quite down after 200+ miles

...stay away from N1 tho

I have the Q300 and it is still loud...eventually I will get rid of it, when I have the time.

I'd go with the UK exhaust mod or Fujitsubo.

until you know which route you are going id stick with the stock exhaust. Flashpro and a test pipe plus an intake will hold you over nicely until you can part up the FI kit. thats what im doing. From what i have read on here if you want some gains from an exhaust id get a 70mm single and tune. if you are going to remain dual id just wait and go 3" when you went FI.

just my opinion

There is a down-side to having injectors that are much bigger than you need. If you go with an injector that is very large, then you will have a hard time getting it to idle smoothly. Every injector has a minimum pulse width, which means that it will have to spray at least X amount of fuel per pulse. If you have a small cylinder, then X might be more fuel than needed while idling. In that case, you have to do a lot of tuning tricks to make idle as smoothly as possible.

Great info. Thanks. Im strongly leaning toward turbo if for no other reson than I cant stop tinkering with sh** and I feel like there are more options and expandability with turbo than superchargers, I like the torque gains too.

Sounds like I'll tune up the injectors as necessary.

Planning on going Dual exhaust. I'll look at the Q300.

How about the computer... Hondata? AEM? Something else?

No point in upgrading fuel pump/injectors til you boost the car. You need to determine your power goals and what you want out of the car first outside of simply throwing in 2000 cc injectors, which would be used for a very high horsepower build that you would only get from going turbo.

Are you looking to go fast in a straight line or still wanting to go around corners?

edit - also, start reading/searching the Forced Induction subforum on here. Endless amounts of info/results for various kits from users on here.

I want to be able to track the car at HPDE events so yes I want to be able to go around corners. I don't want to build a monster drag car, I want something that im going to be able to drive around town though not as a daily driver and I want it to be reliable which is why I want to get an idea of exactly all the parts I need and make sure I do the upgrades properly and with whatever mods are necessary.

First time doing this and dont want to F it up toa bad.

If that's the case build the car right. Get some nice coil overs, tires, upgrade the fluids, SS lines, alignment. Then intake, test pipe, flashpro, tune. Then enjoy the car while you plan your build. You'll be able to track it with that and have a blast
Then when ready you add turbo or supercharger. You'll already have the handling down and be very familiar with the car.
