Default New S2000, mod suggestions?

First, i would like to say hi to the S2000 community. I'm about to purchase an 01 s2000 tomorrow.

The S2000 has an 04 motor and tranny in it. Apparently the old motor was knocking, and the owner found an 04 motor with 21000 miles on it and has been driving it ever since. He put about 15,000 miles on it or so...Car runs very clean, and sounds nice. (No leaks or anything from what i could see, motor is nice)

Anyway, the car just has exhaust on it and new springs and some another suspension mod. It's lowered a tad from the springs and looks good. He has those bright xenon looking lights, which is impressive. The interior is perfect, he did the interior over a different color, so the seats and everything is pretty new. No tears, very nice. (Metallic silver car, red seats)

I know S2000's are not straight line performance cars and i don't intend on it being fast. It's more of a track car, which is nice from the Z28 i had. (Someone slammed into the back of me and totaled it) I was looking for something a little easier to drive, lighter, better braking, etc...

Although, i would like the car to have a bit more pick up. (If possible) My old car had 386Rwhp, so i know the S2000 will never match, unless i get a turbo, or supercharge it. This isn't my intention...

I would just like the car to hit mid 13's, but stay very reliable. Any suggestions on what mods i can do to make the car get some power? (It already has exhaust, but not headers)

Thanks, and i appreciate it. Mid 13's in an S2000 would be fairly quick to me, but i see this being a hard challenge...Overall, the car is very fun to drive and I'm happy regardless.

I personally don't know to much about Honda's in general, since I've been in the domestic world, which is why I'm on this forum now. =)

Thanks in advance.

Hey! Z28 eh? SS owner back in the days (less than a year ago ). The s2000 supposedly can hit 13's STOCK. with a crazy launch + good driving. Getting too much power out of the engine without going FI/Spray is quite hard, apparently. The best bang/buck would be gears/test pipe.

My experience for the s2000 is overall, its a great car. I can guarentee you're going to miss the torque from the V8. If youre used to street racing, youre probably going to have to relearn how to drop gears, since the car revs so high. for me, shifting at 6K rpm (powerband start..) was painful. 9K was just insane. The HID's are actually stock on allk S2000s btw.

Have fun!

oh, and watch out for the oversteer, the s2000's are so balanced to the center/have a short wheelbase that when its butt slides, its easy to loose it. (coming from a camaro it was really strange for me..the camaro would slide so controlled/easily countersteered).

I won't miss the power honestly. I've been racing for so long, it's time to grow up a bit...Street racing is stupid. I like racing sure, but i would rather race on a track...I think i'm going more for the nice look and reliability...This seems like a good car for that. (Turns heads)

So, can i get a test pipe, without getting a header? Because like i said, the car does have exhaust. It's some weird slant exhaust. Looks kind of like this, but the tips are a little bigger. The guy mentioned a big name brand, but i didn't know what it was...lol

Also, any suggestions on making it more eye appealing, or how about the stereo? It's pretty terrible, do you recommend any particular type of speakers for the S? I want it to have some decent speakers and sound...

A testpipe plus CAI might get you +/- 7whp. I have heard that I/E/H + testpipe can get you around 12whp. You get a little performance for a lot of money.

CAI Intake - will give you some really nice sound and some performance. 200.00

Exhaust - I'm thinking you want something mild, 70mm exhaust will net you the best results for HP but it will be louder then a 60 or 63mm.
You can find a quiet 70mm exhaust, T1R has a "EM" line also known as the Sparrow v2.0 which has both a single and a dual muffler (your choice) Up a step is ASM, which is quite a bit more money. there is a exhaust thread under N/A, read there.

You mention there is an exhaust on there, if your happy with it then all the better.

You also mention that it's lowered nicely with Springs. That's cool, just be aware that you will reduce the life of the OEM shock and your probably not getting any handeling benefits over stock suspension.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy!

Properly sized header + properly sized high flow cat + properly sized exhaust + Cheap intake + Hondata w/tune

Should make for a very strong NA bolt-on package.

Header: J's, $1350 New
Mid Pipe: $100 or less with Cel fix
CB: $600-$800
Intake: $250
Hondata and Tune: $1500, maybe less if you can get away with it

So there is an easy $4000 and you MIGHT get 20 whp.

Hondata + tune is not going to be $1500.
