Default New Tires.. but date code is 2022??

i’m wondering if anyone can help me learn if I got scammed or not. I bought four brand new Bridgestone Potenza Sport tires from tirerack.

The person I talk to on the phone show me that they had some leftover ones from a few years ago that were much less expensive, and then they had ones that were made recently.

I opted for the ones that were made more recently, which cost more money. but then they were delivered today and the date code says 2022.

any experience with this madness? the “special/closeout” price is attached. i paid more for the regular “non-closeout” ones.

Incorrect. I was expecting tires made in 2023 or 2024, NOT 2022 lol

Sounds like when the order was placed it was based upon the old tires you show in the screenshot (Says 2021 production). So I assume the person you spoke to about getting newer stock did not get that on the order properly and you will need to take it up with them. That is the only way to solve it. It is not a scam per se as the product you show there has the old date showing on them. So likely just a mistake. Tirerack typically has excellent customer service. I sometimes am ordering 2 sets of tires a year from them and have never had a bad experience. So just give them a call and tell them the issue here.

Normally, if ordering new stock tires, they may be 6 months old but typically not much older than that., especially if ordering popular summer tires in the spring season.

I ordered a set of Pilots from America's Tire Store. When they came in I noticed one of them was a year and a half old. I rejected it. I told them the realistic life per manufacturer for that kind of driving the tire is rated for, is 5 years. I did not want a "new" tire with only a 3.5 year good lifespan. They got me a new one without a hassle.

Talk to them. Send them back if you have to. Ideally you want new tires to be made in the year you buy them or as close as possible to the purchase date (if you buy in January 2024 then the tires should be made within a few months of that but not years...).

It's March 2024. What are the date codes for the tires that arrived? If they're November/December 2022, that's a little over a year.

Most tires I've bought have date codes of 8-12 months old. I wouldn't get bent out of shape over 15 or 16 months. However, in this specific case, I might ask for some money back given the big discount on 2021 tires versus the full price you paid for 2022 tires.

Tires are made in big batches. It's not like they're starting up the production line to make two tires that someone orders. It takes time to get them from the factory to Tire Rack's warehouse (or whatever company). Expecting to get tires that are less than six months old relies on some luck. You don't know when they arrived at the warehouse and they're not throwing them away after six months to make room for newer tires...

No, the order was not for the 2021 tires. I bought the "new" ones that were more expensive. And I did call TireRack and they said it's normal for "new" tires to be a year to 1.5 years old. It's all good, I just wanted to post it here to get some eyes on it.

In the least amount of words, for anyone this may help in the future....

Yes, their "old stock" was 2021.
Their "regular stock" is after 2021

You bought regular stock. Which is what you got.

No biggie, as you already found out.
If it were a deal breaker, you could always get them sent back for fresher ones.

I would just use them (or 2021 tires) completely heedlessly, so as not to waste the precious resource of time.
