Moroso spiral muffler. I know it’s nothing special but it is one of the key ingredients of my track pipe Straight through center section design with a spiral outer bypass
I had 5 criteria for this system
1. simple
2. cheap
3. light weight
4. Free up a couple ponies
5. be loud enough to hear my car on the track but not make my ears bleed.
I’ll be dropping it off at my local shop to have them fab up the rest. Stay tuned if you’re curious.
Owner of Top Gun muffler Dave, showing my how the system is coming along Difference between my system and robrob is mine attaches to the header. It will still include the T pipe for a resonator and an O2 bung to help with tuning later on down the road.
All that’s left is to finish off the tack welds and a lick of paint and she’ll be ready.
Dave kept telling me what a pain it is to remove the back boxes because of the hanger above the mufflers. I may need to re think swapping back and forth between the two systems for long road trips. I just don’t think I’ll be doing more than 1 road trip per year so I don’t think I will be swapping that often.
There was a little miscommunication on the pickup, so I wasn't able to grab my car last night. Talked to Dave and we are going to meet at the shop this afternoon, they are normally closed on weekends. I have a good video of the factory system to compare this one too. consensus is, this race/track pipe is going to be loud!
Florida is funny because we don't have any vehicle inspections, there is a little history that involves a judge getting a citation and then changing the state law. Power of the pen. So I have had a couple cars with straight pipes, I used to run a lot of my bikes with straight pipes too. I am looking forward to see what this system sounds like, curious if the T pipe is going to do much of anything. Dave was telling me he has used T pipes before but he usually makes a sliding pipe to he can tune it. He said with the S there wasn't much room/space so he just mimicked the stock one. I looked up decibel meters on Amazon last night, I might buy one unless someone has one I can borrow.
I'll take a couple more videos; one from in the car and a couple as I drive by. Its loud in vtec, its not too bad below. The old butt dyno is feeling a subtle drop in low rpm and a subtle increase in the power band. All and all, I think it achieved exactly what I was looking for. With the help of my son, it took us less that 30 min to install the track pipe. With all the tools prep'd I think I could do it by myself in about the same time.
Took me less than 20 min to pull the track pipe off. It cooled really fast too. I think it looks like an RPG Tucked away until the next track day
I had one guy tell me, “I’m used to s2k sounding sophisticated, your sounds angry. Love it!” There was a family there today in a 3series. The younger son asked if he could ride with me. He said my car was the loudest there. I wish it was the fastest. Good thing is I can swap it out in less than an hour. I did need an extra set of hands to get the stock system back on.
