Thumbs down Noisy convertible top!

I have a 2000 Honda S2000 with the plasitc rear window that has cracks in it but thats not the issue. When I drive I hear alot of wind noise but the other day I for some reason pulled down on the front handle of the top from inside going about 65 and the noise went away. Is there any adjustments I can do to make the top tighter to the front window frame? Is this a sign that I need new "grab pockets" for the convertible top hooks to grab onto because these ones may be stretchout or worn out?

Any info will help because its hard to talk to my passengers when I drive and I want to fix it before I put it away for winter.

Thanks,

Addictuned S2k

Check the screws that hold the latches down, I had to tighten mine a few times
Best done w. the top down..
Just 2 per side, normal size phillips head would do..

tape around the latches "hook" will make the soft top pull tighter, new strikers is better. Also 02+ latches upgrade will do wonders. Can search for latch rattle fishing line DIY.... this is the absolute best fix.

they are a heavier grade, plus the latches are larger.

latches will likely do the trick, remember to lube them after they are repaired, and lubing the convertible seals with Shin Etsu grease works wonders in plumping the weatherstripping and keeping it working properly = less wind noise. There is a TSB on all of this if you need a reference.

Here was my fix. My top did not make the noises, but it did not fit as tight as I wanted.

Step 1

Get some vacuum hose and a sharp razor blade. Cut two pieces off, roughly 1cm in length.

Step 2

Cut slits down one side of the 1cm piece of hose.

Step 3

Place piece of cut hose on the striker where the hooked piece from the latch goes. Then clip the latch down like normal. This provides a tight fit. (please excuse my crappy pictures. I suck at taking close up shots with a flash). Red arrow shoes the piece of hose.

I hope my images show up, this is the first time I have used the S2ki Gallery.

thanks that looks like a quick fix for the remainder of this season. The photos were fine and you did a good job.

Make your catches adjustable to compensate for any wear in the striker plates, look in my sig for how-to
You can then pull down the hood onto the seal as tight as you like.
