Yea I know thats what almost everyone will say, but all of the ones that weigh less and give me a good sound that I will enjoy are expensive. (mugen, T1r EM, fujitsubo ASM etc) And I am a college student and I just can't justify spending $800-$1500 on an exhaust right now. So this was the reason I was thinking of this as a cheap alternative.

The only exhaust that I would maybe do is the Greddy single, but I hate the big can single look. But I know I could find a used greddy for $500 which isn't too bad. So I am stuck lol. If money was no object I would probably get the Mugen (Dual, lightweight 26lbs, quiet but good tone)

So does anyone know of any decent quiet(ish) mufflers that would work with whatever the stock piping size is before the Y-split?

General rule of thumb is single =/= quiet nor quietish. My Greddy single is LOUD. I like loud though, so it works for me.

I swear I've seen a single sided exhaust based on OEM hardware, basically deleting the driver's side muffler.

I'd suggest buying used instead. In fact that's what I did. I got a used Fujitsubo for $600 probably 4 or 5 years ago. Look for people parting out cars that they're about to sell or do a lease turn in. Maybe you can find someone that will swap out your stock exhaust +cash for an aftermarket one.

Yea I have heard the Greddy single from inside and outside of the car, and it is on the loud side, but only when you get on it. But what I do like about the sound is that even though its loud it is smooth. Its not at all raspy or drony.

I wish the Fujitisubo was a bit lighter, because that would be my pick without a doubt. But from what I understand it is about 40lbs?

I don't mind a little loudness I.E. Greddy, T1r. But I know that I don't want anything really loud or raspy, I used to have an EG with a gsr swap and the owner before me put a buddy club spec 2 on the car. For those that don't know it is pretty much a straight pipe, no resonator or muffler. So I have an idea what is loud and what I dont want lol.

In a perfect world, I would have a dual exhaust that looks oem(ish) is maybe half of the weight and sounds good/aggressive but not loud or drony. Oh and it costs no where near $1700 like the mugen lol.

I've got a T1R 70EM Ti (Single) and its plenty quiet. If money were no object, the mugen would lose hands down. You want the tracy sports true 70mm dual Ti which is ultra quiet and light. Mugen @ 26lbs is heavy! Ti for weight savings as exhaust on a stock car has proven not to do much, light weight gives more performance from what I've noticed. iirc my single T1R is ~11-12lbs

Yea I hear good things about the T1r 70-em, but I have never actually heard one in person. And of course the youtube clips just don't do the exhaust or any exhaust justice.

I know for a fact that my bank account can't keep up with anything Ti @ this time lol, so anything that is titanium is pretty much out.

Castro-Do you have a TP with your t1r? I hear that its very quiet when you want it to be, but can come alive when you need it? Its just that some of the youtube videos make the exhaust sound raspy with a test pipe, and to me it just doesn't make sense to get a full 70mm single and use the oem cat But from what I have heard I like the actually sound a lot better without a TP on the T1r.

Any thoughts on this?

Out of my list, I would rate from loud to quiet. (Greddy single, T1R 70em, ASM 70mm, Fujitsubo, then the mugen)

And as stated b4 the loudest that I would want to tolerate is the Greddy, but I just hate the look of that exhaust. I need a lot of help lol.

imo greddy is louder than the t1r. no TP for me, I live in CA and the cops in my area always like to bust people out for the TP. Not worth it and no real gains for the street running a TP IMO. Sound-wise its honestly ultra deep and a bit loud. Dont get me wrong, the T1R is one of the quietest out there for a 70mm single, but its no where near quiet as people claim. The dual might be a different story.

A friend of mine has a single 70em in SS while mine is a Ti and we both agree that the Ti is much louder overall. It has a great clean echo like sound to it instead of the SS's muffled buzz.

True on that youtube vids arnt even close to the real sound. mine gives semi rattles located under the soft top area and a bit of the rollhoop plastic. A bit annoying but not bad. With the top up or with a HT, its much much louder (the exhaust note)

I say greddy is louder as it comes with a silencer while the T1R has none. Greddy isnt bad, but it is much louder from outside silenced.

Yea I have heard that there is a difference in exhaust tone between the Ti and the SS. I wish there were someone in my area with either the dual or single that I could actually hear in person.

If only I was done with my engineering degree and on with my career, I would not be worried so much about cost lol but as a college student I have to be conscious of this.
