I just use the Rain X bug wash. It always treats the windshield with Rain X when you wash it. I almost never use the wipers

I put that stuff in my DD and my GF's Element too. It's awesome stuff.

Bosch Icons are by far the best. Or any of the new style wipers with the curve. They wipe soo much better than the standard type of wiper blades.

When I fill up at the gas station, I always clean my windshield and my blades. Use the sponge section of the squeegee to rub the crap off the contact area. Cleaning them often prolongs their life. I've tried aftermarket blades. They squeak, I throw them away. Rain-x on the windshield does work wonders.

I recently replaced wipers on both my S2K and my Subie. Got the Bosch Icons for the S2K and some Valeo Ultimates from Tire Rack for the Subie. Both have performed flawlessly. I can't say that one is better than the other but can say that these new designs are great. Yeah they're more costly than OEM and standard blades, but their great functional performance is worth the extra to me.
