Default Opinions, help, don't kill me!

I've been lurking around this forum ever since I got my car in June and now that I've run into a tad bit of money I'm looking into a few mods.

Okay, so here it goes...

I've narrowed down what type of exhaust I'd like but I'm stuck in between three types. GReddy SE, TIC or just a Megan (unsure what type yet). I don't want ANY drone- my sister has a Toyota Supra with a GReddy and has AWFUL drone but in what I've seen here, that's not the case with the 2000. I'd like a nice, clean sound.

My radio is screwy and I just want to replace it. I don't want to modify the interior of the car so what is out there HU, speaker wise?

My ST is torn (sigh). I like to have it replaced (I live in So Cal. ;-)) but I'm also thinking about a HT. What's a better way to go about?

Lastly, WHERE should I go/look to buy cheap? I've been saving up money but not enough to do ALL mods, so which one should I go with first?

My S2k is a 2003, all stock, and a daily driver. I'm no where near knoweledgable in fixing up cars, so please don't get too technical. It'll just confuse me. :-x

Like I've said, I've been lurking and doing my homework but I really need to see what I'm about to ask in one area.

*Takes breath* Okay, that's all for now. THANKS for your help! :-D

exhaust: get whatever you think sounds nice. go to a local meet and find locals with the exhausts you're interested in. ask them for a ride.

head unit & speakers: visit the electronics section.

soft top: patch it, replace it, or get a hardtop. this really depends on what you want. do you like putting the top down? you can patch your soft top and get a hardtop as well. i personally have the top down 90% of the time so i have no interest in a hardtop.

^ I agree.

My opinion if you want a nice sounding exhaust with no drone, the HKS hi-power is the best sounding exhaust for our cars. I have it with a test pipe, and I love it. It is only a 60mm (which is the same piping diameter as stock) so it doesnt really give much gains, but it looks and sounds awesome. It does weigh less so I suppose you do have an advantage. If you want an exhaust that will add power and sounds good, get the Invidia q300. Its a 70mm dual and it also has no drone, you can get one from a vendor on here for less than $600 new.

Yes if you have the top down over 50% of the time your driving, I wouldnt get a hardtop. I would just patch the soft top since you mostly drive top down. If you almost always have the top up, it would be a good investment to get a hardtop, then go ahead and patch the soft top so if you ever have the top off, if it starts raining or something you can easily put the soft top back up.

If its your DD, then fix the ST first. As mentioned patch it up or get a replacement ST if you have to. You can do a patch on your own. Repalcing the top might take some effort and be something you either want to get another member to help with or find a reputable place to do the work.

As for exhaust, I have the Invidia q300 and love it. You can at a minimum go on youtube and find different vids of our car with different exhausts on it. It's tough to really gauge the sound, but it is a start. You can install the exhaust yourself. It's not difficult whatsoever, technically, but will require some extra hands if you have them.

Stereo wise, the electronics section of this forum has alot of reviews and information on all types of HUs and speakers. It's not a difficult thing to do on your own - the HU install is a breeze and the speakers are simple if you don't have to make your own basket for them.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone.

I've been on Youtube for the exhausts but I'll check out the ones that were mentioned here.

I guess I'll patch up the ST for now. It's in pretty bad condition look wise but it has only one tear in it.

And...well...thanks again!

agreed, there are fixes for teh soft top, i know there were a couple threads about it and diys, it would be far cheaper investment then buying a hardtop. Out of the 3 exhausts you mentioned the Se i believe has the least amont of drone

^^ Crutchfield?? I only go to them for pictures and specs. Ebay all the way for something like a head unit.

I also have a soft top tear...it isn't too bad and don't think it leaks so I just have been riding around with it for like a year probably. If it's not too bad don't think that's a priority.

I also was curious about an exhaust, and found that the Fujitsubo Legalis R and the Invidia Q300 are supposed to have a good tone. If I went with one I might try the Q300 cause it's a good price.

I am personally about to do some more stuff to mine, and I was going in the following order Wheels (maybe), coilovers, upgraded brake pads and rotors, exterior, then drivetrain and engine.

I think they make like convertible top conditioner too....I'd look into that to at least prevent other tears or cracking or anything. Leather conditioner for the seats. That is cheap and will keep your car looking nice. I use Lexol.
