Default oversize throtlebody

Has anyone tried a larger TB on a NA engine?
If so has it done anything?

there are plenty out there. and it depends on what year model. i am currently testing skunk2 racing throttle body for MY06+. its a 80mm inlet with a 72mm outlet. i was doing a dyno run but the car kept knocking and i am trying to reschedule for another appointment.

edit: 72 outlet

I want to know how you get a (80mm) inlet with a (72mm) inlet? I bet that's hard to do.

i tested a larger throttle body on my ap1 recently. i posted the results here:

https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/909...tepped-intake/

i saw gains from 6500 all the way to redline with the larger throttle body. i also changed the intake. i really think that without a larger intake pipe, the gains from the throttle body are minimal.

the throttle response was much improved.

if you have a 00-05 s2k you have to also consider the idle air control valve. ideally, you would want to match the opening of the intake manifold to the new throttle body. but you have to becareful because if you open it up too much, you will run into the channels for the idle air control valve.

the dbw throttle guys don't have to worry about that hence why skunk2 was able to make a larger throttle body.

btw, the b-series throttle bodies fit the 00-05 s2k's without any modification.

I had a BDL 70mm TB on my SSM, with the intake P&P to match the outlet (I think thats right ). I then switched it over to a spare Spoon TB and they ran pretty similar by the butt dyno. No way to check against stock as it was a completely different car to my NFR, which is much slower I would say its a good mod when combined with the other breathing mods (filter, intake, mani etc).

My BDL is for sale or trade too. As new but half the full cost...
