Default Plasti-dip

Came across a new product ppl are using on there cars and rims, its called plasti-dip. best way to describe it in my opinion is its like spray paint that hardens into a rubbery plastic. Seems to me like it would be easy to put on and remove. I was wondering if anyone has used this product before, i am thinking about spraying my stock ap1 wheels with it. Opinions or any knowledge on this stuff?

I have heard of people doing that but i dont get it because you can actually peal it off like dried glue if you really wanted to, So i dont know HOW it holds up on wheels. I have used it for tools and what not, but wouldnt put it on my S

I agree with you when you say you wouldnt put it on the S, but the wheels i might do. I found a video on youtube showing someone removing it from a wheel and it looked good on there, i just dont know how long it had been on there. Im curious to see how long and how much it takes for it to start peeling on its own.

Yea i guess go for it... Personally your better off just painting it with some wheel paint, Your only going to get a flat color with plastic dip and its gonna be a weird rubbery texture which can only attract dirt and be more of a pain to clean.

There is actually a lot of info on it here. I did my emblems in it, I taped off a square around my emblems and sprayed the whole thing, and it peeled right off the paint and stayed on the emblem, looks great. Also 2 guys here did their wheels, 1 did black and 1 did white. They have had them for a little while with no problems.

Its great man, i've actually been offering my services on craigslist.
Heres a little break down.

Its removable paint, and you simply have to rub hard in a spot to start removing it and than you can peel it. We have been driving on it for three months ourself without a single chip, and i've seen people paint their entire car with it. (at the end guy couldnt get it off so he pressure washed it - if you have trouble getting it off add a new layer let it dry for 30 minutes so it bonds to old one and than you can peel again)

You dont need to prep your wheels as far as sanding, just have them clean. Spray like you would normally, from a good distance and not to much at once so you dont get to much buildup at once or creating drip. Wait 20-30 minutes and do it again until you have a solid color. Generally its kind of a Matte color but you can also purchase the CLEAR coat plasti dip to make it have more of a shine, remember it has to be plastidip clear coat or you cannot remove it...For the clear coat you only need 2 sprays from a nice distance. Best bet is put it elevated, IE between two chairs and flat, not vertical so the paint would drip down the spokes.

Its def. a fun easy project. - if you screw up, its removable.

You will find Black and Clear plastidip (MAKE SURE ITS THE SPRAY) at Home Depot or Ace Hardware, but they offer Black/Blue/Yellow/Green/White online...
Im going to do my wheels for my element tommorow with 2 cans to try and conserve and see if it helps. and usually i buy and use all 4 cans (one can per wheel so you can feel free to get plenty of distance, but full coverage after a bunch of sprays)

Have fun, if you have any more question feel free to send me a Private Message

its pretty popular with the VW and Audi people. alot of VWs do their grill and it holds up well.

ill probably do my emblems. i did my license plate so they wouldnt scratch the car. ive also used it to make servos on my RC cars water resistant.

its pretty fun stuff

The thread that suzuka posted has alot of stuff on it. I did my wheels white - could have done a better job too (didn't have as much light as I should have used) - and they came out ok. It's a great thing as a temporary fix for rims and can be a permanent fix for emblems and other areas. The white looks great but gets dirty fast!! And because of the texture of the plastic, it doesn't just wipe off. I had to rub with a fresh/constant spray of water when I cleaned them over the weekend while washing the car. I also find that fast orange does a good job of removing any dirt on it as well.

For the money, it's a great temporary way to change up your rims. In the long run though, it would be better to get them PC'ed or to buy aftermarket ones (plan on getting mine PC'ed white during the summer).

I just dont see why its better than a can of wheel paint from autozone? Cause you can eventually rub and peel it off if you like??
