Alright I took off the lid to the stock airbox today for my 60 mile round trip commute to work, and am not to sure about the sound. I'm hoping the K&N system would sound a little more "exotic" than what the stock minus lid sounds like (it sounded just like Civics I've heard w/ short ram intakes--which is fine, but not quite what I'd want my S2k to sound like)
Maybe I'm being lame because it's been a number of years since I've had a car w/ an intake and have forgotten the rawness of it?
I guess the main thing is, w/ the lid off, the sound was a lot louder than stock just driving around town (I thought), like accelerating from gear to gear fairly normal shifting between 4-5k rpms
it's called getting more mature

rode, drove plenty of K&N aem equipped s2k and i found it sounding too much like the average civic with ebay crap pipe.

for the .015 whp gain at 8250rpm, i don't even bother with one

it does give you like 5-6 hp at vtec crossover realistically vs k&n's claimed 9 hp.

Never drove with the stock box lid off but my Fujita and the typical ricey Civic don't anything like each other.

I love mine. Def gives some power too. Love the sound especially when rev matching!

Intakes aren't any louder until you go WOT and get the revs up. Around town it's almost indistinguishable.

The best price would be a used one. You should check on your local forum.

I love mine, it's not noticeable at all if you are just casually driving around town.

I dont think intake noise and exhaust noise can ever be compared. Civic with crap pipe = buzzy. K&N intake = deep tone. the intake noise is comparable to a V8 (ive had one, so take my word on this). Its not overbearingly loud at idle, but its nice to hear a induction noise @ WOT

I may a little older then the average here, when I put in my K&N I feel that the exhaust was a little quieter when in town without any pedal pounding. The only time it will 'growl' is if you get on it. I think to my ears it does give it a little smoother sound compared to the stock as you are getting a much better air intake.

My gas milage is also a little better with, average about 15 or 20 miles more per tank full of gas, not a lot but looking at my milage book it is slightly more.

hmm, i dunno guys. most civics have fart pipes to match.

If you just add an intake to a civic, it wont sound bad imo. It will sound like a car with an intake
