rear toe link removal

Default rear toe link removal

ok so when I replaced my rear knuckle I noticed that the rear toe link ball joint was bad. I popped the ball joint already. how does the bolt come out on the drivers side? I can't seem to get it off where it is bolted into the frame with a bushing. is it just a PITA to remove? mine maybe stuck on. I'm going to PB blast it tonight. any info will help out a ton thanks.

I'm assuming you already have the nut * washer off of that bolt (#25 in the picture, correct?). It should just slide out. However on another car years ago I ran into a situation where the steel sleeve of the bushing in the end of the toe link had seized onto the bolt. No amount of PB or hammering would free it. In the end, I bought a sawzall (or reciprocating saw) and had to cut the bolt on either side of the bushing to free it, and then replace the bolt & bushing. Big suck job - those bolts are TOUGH.

Hopefully just PB will be enough for you, but above is worst case. Hose it down with PB, and remember to tap it with a hammer several times. This helps work the penetrant into the seize. I'd go back a couple more times and do it, and hopefully in the end you can just drive it out with a heavy hammer.

you sir are correct. I was hoping not to have to cut it off but if I have to I will lol thanks for the help.

If it comes to that, Milwaukee THE TORCH saw blades are your best friend. The cheaper blades I tried before them just wore out.

I just did this on wife's Lexus RX. I went through like 5 blades. I'll know to get The Torch blades next time.

Another Top Tip, anti-seize the new bolt so this doesn't happen again, and remove the other one and lube it up too, while you still can.

Yeah, as I recall, I wore out 2 or 3 cheap blades and barely went halfway through. Bought The Torch and finished that side + the other side and the blade was still good to go. Also cut through way way faster. Good stuff!

Good tip on the anti seize, I do that as well.

I used a saw and finally got it. it was a pain in the butt never again and I bent the tabs so I have to bend them back now. annoying

A lot of times you can loosen the locking nut so it's flush with the tip of the bolt, then get a punch and dead blow and hit with one hard hit square in the middle, a lot of times it will loosen the bolt.
