I don't know about the J's ECU but I'm pretty sure it will still throw a CEL. I had one go bad (did not run) so I got a P0411 IIRC. There is no way around fooling the ECU that it is there, so all piggy back ECUs will still show the CEL. Only one I know won't throw is AEM.

It won't hurt the car in anyway it not being there, but if something does go wrong with your car the CEL will already be shown so you will not be alerted of the problem.

i believe anything other than a standalone ems will not help. i know for a fact AEM ems and Kpro will not throw a cel code for the lack of an air pump.

The air pump only functions on and shortly after cold startup, right? If there really is no downside to removing it (aside from emission controls, I'm on a huge weight savings kick anyway) I'll look into what would be required to fool the ECU to remove it. I'd wager that a simple resistor would do the trick, and figuring that out is a simple matter of diagnosis with a multimeter.

that is correct, it only works for a cold start up to force more air into the system to burn any left over unburned gas and help with emissions

it probably won't be that simple. The monitor for the air pump is the O2 sensor voltage so if you do modify that then it would throw your A/F ratios off the whole time, not worth the weight savings imo. It only works at cold start to help decrease the amount of hydrocarbons (unburned fuel) and COs (partially burned fuel) for emissions while the cat isn't warmed up enough to do it itself. Unless you're building a full on track car, don't bother with it.

I'm pretty obsessive. I'll look into it. If it's beyond simple electronics, though, I probably won't go through with it.
