Default repainting calipers

Here is the deal. I painted my calipers a few months ago - used info found in some threads here. End results were great, a nice smooth, even finish. However, I'm not real thrilled with how the color (silver) actually looks with the car and now want to try a different color (red). Has anyone painted their calipers a second time and, if so, did you (1) grind everything down to bare metal, (2) just scuff everything up a bit, or (3) do nothing and just paint over.

Thanks in advance.

Just get a can of aerospace paint remover and it will burn off all the previous paint.

I removed the calipers, ground everything using 3 different 3M wheels (course, medium, fine), made it look real nice... then when I applied the g3 2 part caliper paint, it did not look all that smooth. I also noticed hundreds of tiny air bubbles in the paint. I have pics of the process somewhere.. did not post a diy since I was a bit disappointed.

I recently just repainted mine from RED to SILVER using G2 Caliper paint. Directions said that you can just paint right over the existing paint. Overall the paint stuck and it looks great now.

I used the duplicolor caliper paint system from autozone. It's VERY close to new formula red in color.

I dremeled down the calipers mounted on the car with a small sanding drum.
The kit comes witha brush which goes on looking like it will have lines, but evens out while drying.

After 5 coats, the calipers are very smooth and show quality gloss

Time consuming, yes ... worth it, totally

Sounds like I'll be safe just painting over but I may scuff them up with a scotchsbrite pad, just to give the paint something to stick to. Thanks all.

Just sand them down,a little,and use Tremclad paint;$3.00 for a small can,and you'll have enough for 3 + cars...
