ok so if i got a throttle body, a spacer, and broed everything to match the TB size, would i gain power or not? i am honestly trying to do everything i can before i put my car on the dyno, that way i can get everything tuned right all at once. the car WILL be tuned with everything on it

Yes but in a cold climet some times there is iceing of the throttle plate to worrie about. plus keeping the tb cool only matters so much when the intake manifold runs coolent through it as well. The reality of it is the air is heated beafor it hits the combustion chamber to be burned any way. And last is the fuel will not come out of the injector as a perfict spray/ mist it will be more likly to clump together as a drop or drops Thats why carborated cars ran like crap till they were heated up. Even the s2000, if you just start it and drive it will bog all the way up to 6k no talking about it locking you out of VTEC due to the temp. Thats the ecu..... Just some thing to considder.
cold climate? whats that?

your going to get a million different opinions... kinda like askin, if I have sex? will I get an std or not?.... bottom line is... if you want to spend the money to RISK gaining some power.... then do it!!!..

I say it will add power.... but I WOULD port match the manifold not just the spacer.. also.. If you havnt done every other conceivable mod BEFORE this... I would not recommend it....

well i have a CAI and an exhaust and high flow cats. cats are about to be a test pipe. and i mean a helix throttle body spacer not a spacer that smooths the size transition or anything. and i would port match everything

if you have a tb of say 70mm and the inlet was machined to the same size (i don't think the inlet can be machined above 68mm as it will effect bolt holes), arguably, it may flow better.

however, there seams to be a lot of talk that due to the increased volume, the stock ecu would struggle to correctly idle the car and further to that, it might not even start.

you said you're getting non-oe management so amendments can be made to make the most of the mods, keep us updated

What if i did not port it but i used a tapered spacer? I felt a decent gain but no dyno to see what kind of gain.....
That taper is better then nothing, will help to at least combat some of the negative attributes of turbulance created by the diferences in sizing from the throttle body to manifold opening. And If some people can start posting some difitive dyno plots to offset all the other findings that are out there I may reconsider this as a viable modification for the money. With my understanding I have my resurvations however that just a TB with no porting is worth any more then 2hp somewhere in the rpm range.

Yes, how much? Too many variables to say. Depends on your application. If you can justify the cost of doing these things for 5whp or less then I say do it, might be worth it for you.

yeh it will be a while before i do get it port matched and the tb and the helix and get it tuned. i actually wasnt planning on using a ems, just getting it profesionally tuned at the dyno. i am looking into a vafc2 or a e-manage though since thta might help even more
