soft tops
I have dug up what I was able to find on installs, Manufacturers, and Distributors prior to purchase. Everyone who has an S2k will face a soft top issue regarding this topic during the duration of their ownership eventuallyif they have not already done so. I would welcome any and all comments regarding;
1.Installs: Various install tips, (best method of install with least amount of effort) I have seen the video's I could find and although some are good others lack detail on hints and things to avoid..
2. Manufacturers: A good comparison of brands, IE: EZ on, Robbins, Extreme, etc. I would like to see more comments on attention to detail in construction and what actually came in the box when you received the top. Some manufacturers include more than others and I understand the OEM has extra reinforcement items included but you have to figure out how to apply them best.
3. Distributors: One of the distributors for Robbins for instance is Topsonline.com. This is who I used but they also offer EZ on & Extreme products for the S2k.
I went with Robbins and will receive the top next week but not sure what all comes in the box. I did ask if the elastic straps are included and was assured they are.
I saw where some offer a DVD on a method of install. Did not see where instructions are/are not included with Topsonline but lot's of helpful video out their and good DYI on this site.
Finally, I would just like to see more detail on these subjects. I know I had a lot of questions prior to making a purchase.. I might have gone with an OEM from Majestic but they gouge you on the shipping and I saw the cloth Robbins on a friends car and it really was nice so that's the direction I'm taking but still facing the install. Their are good hints out there but you sure have to do some research.
example hint: Good reinforcement on areas where the support bars/bows slide on the material. Some manufacturers are better than others. I picked up on another hint that someone made sure the areas that slide on the material are made smooth and burr free, (important!).
