Default Something new..

I have the K&N FIPK and ive always had this feeling that it would work alot better if it had something feeding fresh air to it.

So ive decided i want to try to put a snorkel in to 'feed' my FIPK colder air, see how it works out

I was gonna get the PWJDM Snorkel but if you look in the pictures, it very clearly fits perfectly into the stock air box.. now with it like this, is the air box air tight (except for the scoop of course) making a suction from the snorkel which is why it would suck up air from outside?

In other words, does a snorkel need an air tight scenario, and something sucking in air, to actually be effective? or if i put a snorkel with a scoop, will cooler air from outside naturally make its way through the snorkel into the area where my K&N filter will suck it in?

thoughts please

it would work. it will just be blowing cooler air into the engine bay you won't get the ram air effect but you'll get cooler air flowing in

i thought about doing this. i have the snorkel already and i thought about putting this together. i would think a open filter need more air than the oem to be more effective. i was thinking about making a cover to fit the snorkel and the filter in a closed area.

^Thats brilliant, I bet you could swap the K&N element for that whole piece. Would look cool as hell as well.

I've always wondered why K&N FIPK get such good reviews, all the way up there in the hot engine bay, while other CAIs which don't get such good reviews are sucking from the bumper. Anyone know why they give suh good throttle response? I guess it's the shorter tubing... ?

heh i think i lost a little throttle response with my FIPK, ive seen a few dynos where the FIPK has given about 5ish hp throughout the whole rpm range tho.. so that plus the AMAZING sound it gives, i was willing to give up a little throttle response heh

The whole ram air thing does appeal to me though, i think i would enjoy a lot better throttle response along with a nice sound. I may end up selling my K&N, do a drop-in filter and throw that snorkel on the stock intake since its built so well anyways..

^^u got it! shorter the tube the better throttle response. same goes for turbo. but yeah match it with the aut cooling plate and should be great.

or like ans2k said, maybe try to make some sort of cover for the K&N and make an opening for a snorkel, now THAT would be a badass intake
