I will remind everyone that Guests are not allowed to sell ANYWHERE on the forum and it is a huge risk as a buyer to deal with a guest.

On topic what year AP2 does he have? If 06+ I would just get flashpro and get a tune as that will fill in the midrange and provide the pull you are looking for. If it is an 04-05 that is more difficult since emanage is the only affordable option and it can be hard to find someone to tune it.

I have 4.77 gears and while they are fantastic for driving around town or twisty roads they do make the highway annoying; especially with an exhaust. I seriously avoid freeway driving now for this reason, but it does make for more interesting drives. Another thing to consider is AP2's already have shorter gearing in gears 1-4 than an AP1 so it will feel ridiculously short.

4.77 on an AP2 means you have to shift a lot. Runs through the gears are too quick. I was happy with the stock gearing on my AP2.

I have 4.44 on my AP1 and it's a nice balance, it fills in the bottom end punch of the longer ratio AP1 tranny.

4.44 gears don't whine when installed properly.

i had the 4.57 richmond gears with the comptech reinforced diff in my ap2. i felt like that gave me the most balance between my various uses of the car. no longer have them on my car because i sold them during a part out. however if i eventually rebuild my motor and stay n/a, i would look into gears again down the road.

1. The saga goes on: just when I think I'm done with it b/c I can't get a consensus, or feel of which direction to go, I got pmed by someone who is dialoging with me who should know the ends and outs and have a "global" view of all-things-gears, but since they did so privately I won't say who, but I'm hoping I can come to a resolution; this has been going on for nearly 4 yrs., and I thought it was over till my son started asking questions.

2. My "pm" is recommending the Mazda 4.44 interstingly enough, for reasons others have pointed out.
3. Strangely enough, I can't get specific info from those that have the various gears, as I questioned in my OP, so I have no research with #s to give a perspective, since I can't test-drive the options.
4. It seems simple enough: if the shifting points with 4.10s are every 20 mph (1st/35; 2nd/55; 3rd/75; and etc.), what is it with 4.44, 4.56, 4.57 (too much whine I hear), and 4.77. I'm sure I'm leaving out some, but these seemed to be the "big" ones I keep hearing about.
5. Why can't I get that? That would address some questions I have, which could be answered easily if I could drive the 4.44 (best balance, but not as strong) or the 4.77 (too much for AP2?).

I've seen charts here on the forum that show the speed in all gears. There are also online calculators, just punch in the numbers.

Google search: gear ratio calculator s2000

No offense but if he is 29 and it is his car he should be doing his own research. Has he read this thread at all and read the feedback? If not I would just leave it in his hands especially if it has been 4 years of going back and forth on this. Also what happens when it gets put in and he doesn't like it? Money wasted.
