Spare Parts
Hello all,
As I continue to build a 'reasonable' list of essential spare parts, I am thinking of ordering a starter motor and an alternator for the S2000. The prices given by the local dealer are 1) Starter Motor $747 and 2) Alternator $1,304. I did not consider an AC compressor because I simply assumed that this a part that would be shared amongst other Hondas. The prices have been converted from the local currency.
So, the question is, should I proceed with ordering these parts as spares? Do they break down often? Are they repairable, should I consider both or only one of them? Your expert opinion and advice would be really appreciated.
Cheers.

Starters, alternators, etc have always been rebuildable. The typical biz model being you buy a rebuilt one and send yours back to reclaim the core charge.
But those places use the cheapest parts they can get. End result is a part that isn't same quality as oem Honda.
There are also guys who specialize in rebuilding low volume stuff. Classic cars, exotic cars, etc. Someone will step up to offer oem quality rebuilds on these parts.
Even if not, you could always find one of these places, and pioneer this servixe by having them do yours first to figure out what parts are needed.
I did my own alternator rebuild, and it wasn't difficult. Though I didn't have to replace any bearings, which made it much easier.
IMO, its not worth buying new spares for these electrical components. But if I were, it'd probably be the ac compressor.

How does Honda number parts? Its all in the numbers
Some parts are used of a wide variety of cars but some are unique. Honda doesn't make things like starters, alternators, and compressors despite their Honda part numbers so replacements are often available from the part OEM.
Example: Anyone who owns a motorboat or auxiliary powered sailboat can attest that alternators and starters are rebuilt all the time and refurbished parts are common. Marine environments are very hard on these.

Pressure Plate is a clutch part. When you press pedal, its the thing that is providing resistance. The springs that press and sandwhich clutch disk firmly between pressure plate and flywheel.
Its a plate, and a bunch of weird looking springs.
AC compressor is unique to ths car. Not shared with other Hondas.
Meanwhile, the parts inside alternator are shared. Hence plentiful and cheap. Not sure about starter, but it rarely needs replacement. Often any issues can be resolved with clean and lube.

Thank you for the confirmation. I will ask our dealer about the pressure plates, which I assume can be ordered separately and not the full clutch assembly, as well as the AC compressor.
