Default Stock intake minus cover?

Hey guys. I was just talking to another S2k owner and i asked him about his intake. It made his motor sound deeper, much like a complete aftermarket kit. He told me all he did was remove the top cover of the intake while still using his stock filter. Is there any negative to this other than having to replace the filter more often?

I was under the impression that by removing the cover it will cause bogging and heat soak...someone please correct me if i'm wrong...

i didn't dyno it... but on the "butt dyno" I felt a negative difference. I did this on a 95F day. It definitely seemed to bog leaving stop lights, but it bogged even when moving 40+ mph (so heat soak shouldn't have been much of an issue there).
I agree, the engine sounds cool. But it definitely felt like it lost power for me.

You will suck in more hot air and lose power. eof.

It sounds cool, but its not a good idea, i did it for alittle while and it causes so much heat soak and kills throttle Response. I would keep it on or get a aftermarket intake.

That pretty much covers it -- get an intake.

Yup, it sounds good... thats about it... car bogs, feels slower definitely... all it's doing it drawing in hot air.

Opinions vary. Some say you lose power, some say it's the same, some say the power loss is so minimal you'd never notice unless tracking the car.

IMO: just buy a K&N FIPK. That's what I'll be getting when I look for an intake.

You will heat soak quicker. Get an intake or leave it on..
