Default Test pipe

1. I wasn't a 100% sure exactly if a test pipe adds horsepower. I understnad it takes the place of the cat, which I think is illegal, but anyways, which I would assume allows a lot more free flow through the exhaust, increasing power. But on the other hand, I also read that it gets rid of back pressure on the exhaust, which can actually decrease horsepower.
I am not sure what to believe.

2. What exhaust setup is a surefire way to increase the S2000's power output, assuming all else is stock in the engine except for the air intake? I have read that some exhaust setups can actually decrease horsepower!! Please point me in the right direction to know which exhaust kit is the best one to get (I also know some single exhaust kits can also let you lose some weight, which can also increase a car's speed.)

Thanks!

should not matter which exhaust you plan to go with, the testpipe will increase power.

just go with some 63mm or 70mm single and testpipe and you will gain a few whp...nothing drastic

yup test pipe is good for around 5 ponies...

for exhausts if your looking to get the most power get a single...they are light weight and produce more power then duals from waht i've seen...

only exhaust that I heard looses power is the HKS dual....but again thats only from waht I've read on here

Would adding a test pipe to the stock exhaust make a noticeable difference in sound and power? If so it looks like it would be a cheap mod. I live in an area that is not tested and would like to keep the stock exhaust but a little more sound and power for under $100 sounds like a good bang for the buck.

I did the same thing on my BMW bike and it worked great.

just put on my berk test pipe, really didnt notince any major power gains. I am stock so many with more bolt ons the power would be more noticable.

Hmmmm, just what I'm looking for. I assume it's just an easy bolt on process to swap out the cat for the TP. Other than the occasional CEL issues I've read about, are there any other drawbacks? (other than it being illegal)

you cant pass emission with the cel on unless you get one of those test pipes that has unequal length bongs..

Well I don't have emissions testing where I live so that's not a worry.
