Tinting soft top myself.

Tinting soft top myself.
I purchased a soft top and need it tinted same as my windows.
I went to get a quote and the guy said 70-120$ depending on the film for the soft top window that's not on the car, was he trying to rip me off because it seems like a 30 minute job?? What might another shop charge?
1. How can i determine what % tint I have on there now to match my windows?
2. I've seen people with self-tinted windows and they look purple and disgusting, is the good film available in small amounts?
3. I heard the professional tint is hard to work with, but my top is not installed and it's a small flat surface?
TIA

that seems like a lot but it might be worth it, they could match the tint to your existing tint (as long as it's not badly faded) and it should last a long time. DIY tint tends to look crappy and does fade purple from what I've seen. Maybe shop around at different places?

70-120 for just the back window? That's incredibly high in my area. Self-tint can be done, I am no expert - and I have never had any, heard of any, or seen any self-tint jobs going well.
My advice... Get another quote. I got mine done last week; all windows and a front strip for 70 bucks.
Good luck,
Matt

go somewhere else- i got my two windows and oem hardtop tinted for 150 by a shop that does amazing work- one of the more pricey shops in my area. the oem hardtop looks like a pain to do so I could justify the price. I would think most places would charge about 40 max to do it seeing as it is not installed so it would be easy to work on.

EBAY!!!!!! They sell pre-cut tint for our cars. You can purchase the back window film separately.

I have purchased several times from this seller. Tint DOES NOT fade, is NOT purple. fast shipping, good stuff. I HIGHLY encourage you to buy this. Being that your top is uninstalled this would literally take you 5 mins. to apply. EASY EASY EASY!! As far as matching the tint goes, this shouldn't be a big deal. Just look at the selection and see which looks closest to yours.
Materials needed:
- Rear window film(ebay)$17
- Squeegee and "Tint on" spray applicator.(Wal-mart or auto parts store)$9
