Default Torque Dampers Vs Motor Mounts

To all, I hope this isn't a repeat subject as I have done a search but could not find anything directly relating to both. I was interested in swapping out my motor mounts (100k currently) with innovative 75a mounts but then I have seen others have been using torque dampers. Has anyone used both separately or both together and is one more worthwhile then the other?

Swapping out the engine mounts makes the most sense. Will the mounts cause annoying rattles & hums? yes, of course, that's how you know they're doing their job. If you want a compromise, I'd go with Vibratechnic Mounts (not the race spec ones)

I installed my torque damper at 50k miles and it seems to have preserved my mounts; I just turned over 100k recently and they are still in perfect condition...

I doubt that there is anything concrete out there that has been tested comparing the two. Maybe some of the track rats have.

If you are thinking of future mods, they should be considered now. For example, if you want to supercharge, the ingalls torque damper (which IMO has the best mount system of all the torque dampers), will interfere with the supercharger mounting.

***Edit***

One other thing with the torque damper is that they are adjustable. At least the Ingalls one is.

It depends what your goals are. I just put a damper on and I can say it feels like 80% the effect of aftermarket mounts (I've had them on previous cars), but with no additional noise or rattles inside the car. Very noticable and positive effects of stopping excess engine movement. If your mounts are failing you may want to change the mounts though.

I was having some trouble on occasion getting the car in gear going through turns at the track. At about 100k i installed the ingalls ETD and it cured almost all misshifts. So I do recommend, esp if you track yours.

With 100K on the car you should replace the engine mounts regardless. Any aftermarket mount turns the seat into a massage chair. Get stock mounts with an ETD for a good ride or go with the Megan/Hardrace mounts for crisp shits in a track setting. If this is a 100% street car any you value a smooth ride and comfortable passengers dont get aftermarket mounts.

Ended up just buying all new motor, trans, and diff mounts. Hopefully will install this weekend when I get back home.

I had experience with solid mount and all I can say is stay away, unless you're planning to track your S regularly. I hate that constant noise transfer from the engine to the chassis.

Never thought to buy a torque damper to preserve my oem mounts. Can the Ingalls ETD be easily removed for easier access to the oil filter?
