Default Tranny and Mod advice

Hey whats up everybody?!

I guess this is my first official post so Ill give a minor intro....

Im a long time lurker on S2Ki but post quite a bit on s2000.com anyway my S2000 is a MY00 GPW with red and black interior. Had her nearing six years now so Im not new to the car lol.

On to my question,

Its summer time and im looking to do a few modifications. My primary mod is an AP2 tranny. Does anyone have a suggestion on where I should get one? I know some places I could get one but I was wondering if there is a really reliable place I could go to first. Any advice on where to get one or on the swap is greatly appreciated.

Other mods im looking into are some Koni shocks, T1R exhaust, CR tower brace and considering a CR tonneau cover. Any advice on any of that is also welcome.

My current mods:
Matching Hardtop, I removed the soft top and installed the Hardtop all on my own! Yay for me lol
4.44 gears
Drilled rotors, HPS pads, stainless brake lines
Tein H springs

Couple other mods such as stereo but those are the main ones.

Thanks for any advice or comments!

Welcome!

I'd just look in the classifieds section on here for a used AP2 transmission.

I know the flange on the ap2 tranny/driveshaft/differential is different from the ap2. There are ways of converting it but I do not know how I never looked. So just popping an ap2 tranny in won't work with your diff just 'plug and play'. I'd say just grab an ap2 diff but you are geared. (unless you want to sell your ap1 4.44 diff. I'll buy it lol). In addition the gearing in an ap2 tranny is different. My understanding is an ap2 with 4.44's are the equivalent of an ap1 with 4.77's. Hopefully this is helpful with any transmission concerns.

T1r exhaust will bolt up and the sparrow 70mm is one of the best on the market.

The CR brace and cover should bolt up just fine as well.

My only recommendation is Koni Yellows are awesome struts paired with springs on our cars. But you seem to not be short on expendable income (no offense). You may be much happier with a nice set of PSS9's. Just because you buy coilovers doesn't mean you have to go low. The right set of coils can really make our cars shine.

great mod list im pretty much the same as you ap1 ap2 tranny (LOVE IT best mod done to the car by FAR ) not only does it drive smoother and quieter the shorter 1-5th gearing picks up nice and the longer 6th maintains sane revs on the highway. rmk232 is correct on the gearing aspect you car with an AP2 tranny will be about the same as an AP1 with 4.77

as far as where to get it I picked one up on here shipped it via grayhound bus for a total of 700 thank you s2ki!

I'm running RSR springs with koni yellows on the top perch, if you want it another 15mm you can use the lower perch to drop it a bit more. The car rides MUCH better with the koni shocks soaks up bumps better and it also handles better.

Finally an update lol. You guys were super helpful. I havent worked out the tranny swap yet. The gears do get in the way unless I want to rebuild an AP2 diff with my 4.44s. sppedjunky im glad to hear you like the AP2 tranny because ever since I drove an AP2 I found I had to have that tranny lol. It seems the short 1-4 combined with the long 6th would be a brilliant combination.

So what I did get done:

Got the T1R. I went with the EM dual and got it used (it looks new) if you can believe that. I am super happy with that exhaust. Its awesome. It gives the car a great sound without being too loud. I have been on stock exhaust for almost six years so that was a big change for me. The butt dyno reports vtec coming on a little harder too.

I also decided to go with the Koni shocks. The ride.... is SO much better.... Way better. The ride with 00 shocks on those H springs was appalling. The car would skip around on roads full of tar lines. But now its great. As far as adjusting it im still working on what I like. At first I thought I could go full stiff but that was a mistake. It still absorbed bumps but the short rebound made the car really jiggly. So bad it was kinda nauseating lol. Now I have it set to full soft just so I can see the opposite end of the spectrum. Im thinking it needs to be set much more on the soft side. Ill probably try a full turn from soft on the front and a half turn from soft on the back.

I also added a powder coated intake manifold and the plastic hondata intake gasket.
