Default Is this True?

I can't remember where I heard this but someone said that just removing the intake cover and taking a spin, hitting VTEC will give a good idea of what the K&N FIPK sounds like?? Is that true?

If so what's to stop people from just removing the cover and maybe getting the K&N cone so you can have a rechargeable filter an never have to pay for anew one?

I'm completely clueless to this stuff, just trying to get an idea here ...

it will probably be louder because its sucking in more air but then again your sucking in hot air from the engine bay which causes heat soak and you basically loose power.... that is why people dont leave the lid off

Bah. I ran with an open airbox lid and a K&N drop in filter until I went with ITB's. The sound was great and I didn't suffer from any worse heat bogging issues than if I'd have left the box lid on. Go for it. Worst case scenario you don't like it, then just put the box lid back on.

The lid off didn't sound that good and isn't a fair comparison.

Then again i'm comparing it to the fujita CAI

i took the cover off just to see and it sounded alright, but i went and got the k&n and it sounds bad ass. even helps at the pump i can go another 30-40 miles with it on now, and u can feel the difference.

True story.

Putting the K&N FIPK on is a much better idea than just removing the lid. It sounds better and doesn't LOSE power.

Thanks for the responses. I figured if it was JUST for sound maybe, but it's not all that important to me - especially if it means I'm possibly losing power in the end. I need to hear an S with the FIPK installed to make a decision if I want to go that route or just stay w/ the stock box.

i think u can find it on youtube if u type s2000 fipk or something like that. Again, it's way different from the sound u hear in person due to video quality. lol
My reasoning is always like this:
If ur afraid of hydrolock or live in a place where it rains and u don't have a beater, BUY K&N. The sound is good, response is better, and u get a peace of mind.

i dynoed 4whp when we put the airbox lid back on, so.... keep it on or get the fipk. but i dont see how the fipk is that much different than stock. it still uses a box using the hood. but if your just getting it for noise then go ahead.

^^ Yup...we tested that at a dyno day too and also saw that removing the lid costs power.
