Default The truth about Amuse exhausts

I just spoke to a Japanese Amuse rep in Japan about their R1 ti exhaust series cuz I wanted to buy one. So I thought I would share you guys what I found out.

They said all(except the R1000) their exhausts use steel wool in them and that after the wool burns out (which it will) they are all going to sound really loud and to top it off you will here scratching noise inside your exhaust from the left over wool. The only way you can get new wool in them is if you have them reattach a new muffler (the piece is about $600 double if u have the dual exhaust ) which will be cheaper then getting a new whole system but probably only worth it if u live in Japan so they can do it for you. Also they said that their S2000 exhaust gets allot of cracks in them from the high revving heating up the exhaust. So S2000 users tend to drive really fast and this is a bad(good?)combo. It will be a real problem if you don't know anybody that can weld titanium well.

They basically said that you should consider their exhaust a use and replace item.

The packing on any after market exhaust over time will begin to deteriate. You have to understand that it will happen in the span of 5+ years. Also if it does ever happen take it to a well respected, exhaust fabrication shop and they can repack it for cheaper than replacing the whole muffler.

But I thought I read in some web site that Mugen exhaust doesnt use steel wool...

Amuse said that you cant repack their exhaust with new steel wool.

I don't know who you talked to (or if you really talked to anybody at Amuse), but I highly doubt anyone from Amuse told you all of this, and if they did they must be new.

Older Amuse exhausts had a problem with the packing material in the resonators breaking down, so they changed the material and fixed the broken ones for free. Amuse is a very reputable company that makes great products, the exhaust is not going to crack and rattle in any short amount of time from normal driving. And wherever you heard that titanium exhausts crack from heat is ridiculous ... I had one that turned green from being run on a track above 6k rpms for its entire life, and it was still in great shape.
