Default tuning ideas

i have an 01 ap1 and ive heard that they run very rich. in the vtec range and i can def smell it lol. i am getting a t1r 70m v3 catback and either toda header or j's racing header at the end of january. ive seen wit ha vafc2 that u gain about 20whp up top because of leaning it out some. ive seen that the ecu gets use t othis and adjuts back to normal. is there any kind of tuning i can do where it will stay there no matter what. the car is going to be turboed next year so im wondering if i should just get the aem ems with the header at the same time and go to a shop and run a na tune for a year or before i get it turboed.

what happens if you want more power then that? my goal is to hit around 600-650whp out of the f20c. stock block stock head. stock tranny and stock rear. im looking for at least 500whp. minimun. i would be hapy with 550 to 650whp. would the greddy emanage let me do that or would i need to go to aem ems.

You wont get that far with an emanage. Will need a full ems.

The vafc wont re learn your WOT tune which is all that matters, it only re learns the closed loop/ narrow throttle operation. So go for it if you want.

okay thanks. i might do a vafc2 now and then a aem ems later on down the road for my turbo setup. im going to get all the parts at once and do the whole build. how hard is the vafc2 to hook up? does the vafc2 show you air fuel or do i need to also purchase a aem uego wideband? if so thats fine.

Its easy to hook up if you get the pnp harness with it. Its really not worth the hassle otherwise. typically you can find a vafc2 with pnp harness in our classifieds for about $300.

You will need the wideband to see your afr and tune it. You need for both set ups anyway.

Into your TP if you have one, right next to your factory 02. There is instructions that come with the wideband kit from AEM. You want to make sure that the sensor is angled down slightly so that any residual fuel in the pipe runs off the sensor. This is covered in the instructions as well.
