Default Used Ohlins

Hello fellow S2k enthusiasts, I am planning on buying a set of used Ohlins (2 years sold, 20k miles, 6 track days, no leaks, very good shape - That is what the buyer is telling me havent had a chance to see it in person yet). What i want to know is, how much would a set of ohlins be sold for with those conditions and how can i confirm if they are still in good shape? Any advice on if i should pull the trigger for 1800? Thanks for your time and knowledge.

Probably not considering people are getting them new for just under 2000.

I personally wouldn't.

You can get them for $2300 new from a US distributor or $1900 new from a UK distributor if you're willing to wait 2 weeks.

Also, Ohlins recommend a rebuild every 2yrs/20k miles.

Yeah with the recommended rebuild window and cost of rebuild I would put that money towards a new setup.

Is that suggested rebuild interval under regular street operation, or is that track mileage?

The suggested interval for NORMAL street use is 20k/2yrs.

But...they'll probably work fine past that mileage/date anyway.

At 30-40k, you probably want a rebuild to keep it as sharp as possible. But for purely street use, you may be fine for longer.

Aftermarket suspensions all have very low mile rebuild recommendations. IIRC, Tein is like 3yr/35k. But I am pushing 60K on my SA's on my DD. They're *just* starting to feel un-fresh (I have an almost new set on another similar car to use as a comparison).

Some manufacturers don't give intervals. You just rebuild them or replace them when they're too sloppy for your use.

I bought my set used from an acquaintance. 2k miles. 1 track day. $1700 with original box and manual.

So...no...20k miles, 6 days, and $1800 doesn't sound enticing. They're only ~$600 more brand new.

I bought mine for $1,800 with 9,000 miles and no track days with the original box and whatnot from a seller in OC, which I thought was a fair price. As others have said 20,000 miles is right at Ohlin's recommended rebuild mileage so I think you'd want to talk the seller down a bit.

EDIT: What's the rebuild cost? Probably good to know if you decide to negotiate with the seller
