1) buy a vicious dog.
2) Aftermarket alarm w/ tilt sensor, prox, glass and backup battery. I reccomend any brand from DEI
3) Buy a NRG steering wheel kit, make sure to purchase a wheel lock so nobody else could put their own steering wheel.
4) If you want to be fancy, get Lo-Jack or just get some sort of GPS tracker.
5) Put a car cover and lock it.

Keep the car stock or you can just sell the car and get one that is not highly sought after. I have a civic hatchback that I have been wanting to mod but I am unable to because I know the second I look away the car is gone, lol.

Get a hardtop, a really good alarm, and be friendly with you
r neighbors so if they do see something they would actually tell you!

Prevent? You can't.

You can slow people down though.

Custom alarm install (not a Best Buy special, battery backup, multiple sensors, multiple sirens)
Hidden kill switches (no one else knows)
Park in a garage and well-light area
Hardtop

etc
