Default What turbo kit to go with?

Hi, so I have a 04 s2000. Wondering what turbo kit I should go with. Not looking to push more than 18psi. Also where can I order? I’ve been looking at classifieds. Everything sells so fast

Power goals? Street use? Track use? Do you have supporting mods?

Asking what turbo kit to get is like asking how long is piece of string.

SOS or PTuning are the best overall for what you're looking for.

SOS and PTuning are the closest to bolt-on. It's hard to go wrong with either, but I would probably recommend SOS to somebody wanting best fit/finish/reliability and PTuning to somebody with more of a tuner/max-power mindset.
PTuning:
  • makes more power due to the exhaust manifold and turbine housing design
  • has the benefit of v-band turbine housings.
  • I would only choose this today if using a G30-770 turbo, but that does not seem to be an option on their site. This is worth calling them about.
  • Their fan wasn't enough to cool my car.
SOS
  • A bit less expensive
  • uses the stock radiator fans (they flow more than the PTuning and other bolt-on aftermarket fan solutions - significant reliability benefit to this)
  • does not require an oil scavenge pump (significant reliability improvement).
  • You can likely buy an AEM EMS or Hondata from them including a good basemap from their library.
  • The waste gate is recirculated as standard and their downpipe bolts directly to factory exhaust.
  • Their twin scroll exhaust setup limits peak power a bit, but provides very quick spool.
  • I would be looking at the GTX3576R for this setup.
  • SOS does a LOT of in-house track testing and development.

Other options:
Full Race Pro-Street.
  • Far from bolt-on, but makes the most power per pound of boost of any manifold out there.
  • Now with v-band turbine housings to allow use of a G30-770 (or smaller turbo if you prefer).
PFabrications.
  • I have a custom PFab manifold to support a S300SX FMW. I've just taken it off and it's my first manifold which hasn't cracked. Not sure how it will stand up in other few years, but so far so good.
  • I pieced this kit together myself and would not recommend piecing together a kit to most people unless you are good with research, fabrication, and don't mind spending more $$ than if you just bought a complete kit in the first place.
  • If you love the look of a top mount turbo, these are absolutely the way to go.
  • If you want to run a Borg Warner EFR 7670, EFR 8374, or similar turbo, these are hard to beat. I would prefer this style to a sidewinder any day.
  • Complete kit is fairly inexpensive.
There are other kits out there, but I don't have a lot of experience with or knowledge of them, so I won't comment.

I have the PTuning kit with the 3076 2nd gen and am very happy with it, however my car is not a daily driver. If I daily drove the car I would have either kept my SoS supercharger or gone with the SoS turbo for 3 reasons: 1) vibration from the PTuning motor mount that is necessary to mount the turbo is much more noticeable than stock, 2) the scavenge pump is extra complexity, and 3) although the vband is great for simplicity and flexibility, there is no way to bolt in a high flow catalytic converter without custom making one - I prefer to have a cat to reduce the smell and emissions.

No more than 18psi probably means you're looking for a reasonable street build - if that's the case I would look into the SoS hi-boost supercharger kit. It's still around turbo kit price but the car drives like stock, you can even keep the stock exhaust and cat, and it can be a true sleeper with over 400whp. Also almost 100% reversible, with only some of the plastic up front requires cutting.
