Thumbs up Built Engine question.

I have a built motor trying to break it in by going N/A and using all the oem parts like injectors etc. The question I have is, do I need to get it tuned or can I just use the stock ecu without a tune? Also if there's a better way of breaking in a new built motor please let me know. Thanks.

I recommend telling a little more info here; What do you mean by built? Aftermarket Pistons, Rods, Valves, increased displacement, Head Word... All this is going to factor what ECU and components you should be using..

Every car should be "tuned" before running it for too long period... Will your car run well on a factory tune is the question.

Change your oil and filter frequently and stay out of Vtec for a while...

(then you have the guys of Nascar building 800hp motors the night before a race and running them for 500 miles wide open... So who knows)

Anyway, a free bump at the very least. Cheers

running a car untuned is never a good idea, but it shouldnt be that bad, stay out of vtec and dont rev it ridiculously!!

as far as breaking a motor in, ive always done it like this....

put in REAL oil, never synthetic during the break in...

first gear pulls to 4 or 5k and let it rev down do that for 50 or 60 miles
then go and change your oil and filter, put in synthetic and youre good to go!!

i did this on 2 motors on my evo and also on my 2010 camaro

works like a champ!!

ask the builder how to break it in..

but that setup will be fine running on the stock ecu.

You can ask builders and everyone has there own secrets n ways to Break a motor in
Some say its good to go after you let it run, some say change the oil right after it warms up and then aging.after you drive it a little
Me personaly I do a oil change right away and the agin in 300 miles and then agin evry 500
And put cheep reg oil no syn stuff.
Its all up to yuo
But tune it once its ready if u don't,I've seen bad things happen Gdluck

there is no universal break in procedure.

you need to talk to your engine builder, break in depends on how its built.

most of the time you need to load up the engine asap, if its not broke-in in the first 30 mins of the engine running its never going to be broken in. There is no reason to go through a 1500 mile break in unless grandpa time honed your block with a brick.
