Default Cams

Does anyone know if you can use AP1 Cams in an AP2 head? Turbo setups seem to get less power at the same boost on AP2's compared to AP1's, and I've been told that this may be due to the cam difference. Any insight from someone who really knows these engines would be greatly appreciated.

AP1 Intake cam matched with the AP2 Exhaust cam is optimal. This gives you slightly better spool and better intake at the same time.

this is a N/A vehicle.
technically can get gains, but you have to have a vafc or a piggyback.

Recent measurements have shown that both the AP1 intake and exhaust cams are better.

Interesting. Do you happen to have the source for that info?

Probably the Official Cam Thread.

No need to be an ass about it.

ABCVTEC no offense but comments like "Recent measurements have shown that both the AP1 intake and exhaust cams are better" don't do much, but start rumors.

From the posts near the end of that thread they broke down the differences in lift over the duration of the cam. That is hardly proof that AP1 intake and exhaust cams are better.

Saying its better to have both AP1 intake and exhaust cams is still speculation. I know Carrera4 has documentation showing gains on his setup with an AP1 intake cam (with adjustable cam gear) and AP2 exhaust cam.

I don't know of anyone with both AP1 cams in a F22C that has posted gains over both AP2 cams. If there are dynos out there showing that I take everything back.

Sorry, allow me to rephrase.

AP1 Cams are more aggressive. AFAIK Carrera4 just switched to using both AP1 cams for his new setup.

EDIT: Actually I take that back I don't think he did. I know he changed a cam for his new head I just don't know which one.

Thanks for the responses. I think I'm gonna get my hands on both cams and do some dyno runs on some combinations of intake and exhaust and see what kind of gains I can get. It'll be a while, but I'll post whatever results I get. I think I'm going to try switching out the AP2 intake manifold with the AP1 also and see what that does.
