Default K&N CIA / FPIK - Garbage

Don't get over hear much but I just installed a K&N CIA since I pulled the turbo off my car and I am selling it. I did not want to put the factory box back in so I figured I would just get a CIA.

Anyway I did not want a the AEM style b/c I was afraid of sucking water into the intake and all the K&N products I have gotten before was high quality. Long story short, the kit was garbage. The filter box did not fit well, the seal around it was crappy, the intake tube is really cheap, they used low grade hardware, the method for mounting was terrible and worse off the filter its self has gotten cheaper. They used to have a heavy molded rubber end cap now it is a thin piece of metal with a faux carbon fiber pattern.

If I had to put a dollar amount to the actual worth it would be more like $75 not nearly $300

I love my FIPK, especially with a BPi stack and AUT plate.

I think you mean "CAI" (cold air intake), but if you got the K&N FIPK like the one pictures above, it isn't a CAI anyway.

Not opinions this is fact. How can you disagree with the fact that the hardware is low grade, the coupling is very flimsy (the triple layer silicone couplings I used on my turbo were only $6 retail) and that they really cheapened up the filter.

Yep, that’s the one.

If I wasn't selling the car I would have just returned it when I opened the box. Otherwise I would feel bad charging anyone for it.

Only b/c you don't know any better. Trust me I have been doing this a long time and have seen CIA kits from many different vendors. The best I can figure is that the only people that are buying the kit are ricers and they feel they can get away with it and as long as people are willing to pay then they will.

I will get some photos when I get a chance.

I am going to write them a letter and see what they have to say.

I like mine, the sound is great. But I agree with the poor fit and finish, low grade materials, overall cheap design/build, and the poor rubber seal. I bought mine used and that rubber mold fell off from the front part of the box with the previous owner--looks like it was cheaply glued together, so I just have to find some super glue and put it together.

For example, the nuts that for the bracket in front of the horn should have been designed as part of the box (fixed in the box) so you wouldn't have to struggle in the tight space underneath. But it probably cost them 3 cents for the low grade screws and nuts.

I can't comment on the filter as there is no way to prove it that it's gotten cheaper.

I bought mine used for 1/2 of the price, but if I had to pay $300 for it I would expect a much better quality product. Not worth $300 in my opinion.

Mine fit perfectly. The only complaint I have is that the box was a PITA to install. They use that piping to resist heat soak and dampen the noise.

I'm a rice for buying an intake that is proven to add power and has good fitment? What's this world coming to?
