02 race S2000 is back on ebay
my first race weekend was fun but i finised 5th both days...... just stupid stuff.... then the 2nd race weekend my car caught on fire on saturday due to the oil pressure guage connection breaking..... so i qualified way back....4th and final race against the yellow S2000.... on Sunday I had the lead the entire race until the next to last lap... i got stuck in lapped traffic which his driver closed the gap and outdrove me the last lap..... rookie mistakes on my part....
since then I had knocked 1.5 seconds off my lap times and won a handful of races, but they had dropped out about the time I figured out how to switch gears.

bummer. that's a nice car but 24K is too rich for my blood. i was going to split this with a buddy but he doesn't want to go that high and neither do i.
Lapping is never the same after your first race.
They've been discussing it a bit here:
http://www.roadrace-autox.com/bbs/forums/t...osts=16&start=1
The question there was whether it's still legal to run as a race car any more with the swapped dif, engine and the brake ducts. I don't follow the racing rules so, I have no opinion.
Wonder how you value a race car? It's only useful to one person in what, 10 million here in the US? I think of race cars as built up salvage title cars. Can this one be considered "well sorted"?

On the upper end, find out how much it would cost to build a car, including finding a donor car/carcass. The advantages of building one's own are obvious--you can prepare it to your own wishes (within the rules of the class in which you wish to compete); you know the car well, so that working on it is simpler; it hasn't been raced, so you have a good handle on what should die and when; etc.
But building your own is a PITA; it's easier to buy someone else's when they're done with it. You'll pay considerably less than building your own, for obvious reasons, but you're also buying a bunch of unknowns.
For me, I bought a used one for about 60% of what it would have cost to build one, from a know good guy and excellent racer. It will take a while to learn to race effectively, and this car will be a fine car to learn on.
Hey Mark -
My buddy (and fellow S2000 owner) has a safe place to store a race car. Never knew that until the other day after we chatted a bit re: this car.
I thought we could snag it for under 20K. At 24K neither of us is *that* committed.
I'd auto-x it and do a few lapping days with it as would he.
Not gonna happen though at 24K

that car was raced in SCCA SPU.... it apparently was legal there, and is probably legal in SCCA ITE like the west coast guys mostly run.
The illegal part is for NASA honda-Challenge.
brake ducts are legal, the intake is not with the hole in the bumper, but would be if they close up the hole... the diff is questionable and the engine/tranny is legal..... the AEM apparenty is illegal, but hopefully that will change for 2007.....
the S2000 has no chance to win with VFAC against K20R's.... AEM or other tuning is the only chance it will have..... I have AEM in my 2.2L 2001 S2000 that I was planning on racing in Honda-Challenge in 2007.

I don't even have a title to my car..... it is a bill of sale.... i sold my 2 year old race S2000 for $16,000 on stock wheels and minimal stuff......
The only real $ I could have saved was about $1500 in labor to put in my engine and all the electronic work for the oil pressure gauge, shift light, etc......
