Anyone interested in driving 5300 miles in one week while getting a chance to drive at Watkins Glen, Michigan International Speedway, Heartland Park, Texas Motorsports Ranch, Road Atlanta, Virginia International Raceway and then Watkins Glen again? Oh, and I almost forgot, in your free time, you can also do a couple of drag races! Well, if this seems like your kind of vacation (an entire season of racing in just one week) check out http://www.onelapofamerica.com There are already two S2000s signed up and it would be great to have more. I ran this event last year in the S2000 and had a great time. If you want more information, just let me know. I can even tell you how to pack 7 days worth of clothes, tools, cameras and spare parts in just the trunk! And yes, we did take the space saver spare along. You don't need any special safety equipment although a roll bar and harness are strongly recommended. Feel free to contact me directly if you want at sahlgrim@mediaone.net.

Come run with the big dogs instead of just sitting on the porch!

Hi Scott...how's it going? You and I have met a couple of times. Man, I WISH I could run with you this year. But I am planning on doing it next year.

I'm sure you will have a blast again this time, though!

Scott:

Mark with Genesis Racing I met you at the 24 Hours. Good luck to you guys this year. I may try to catch you at RA. It is only about 1.5 hrs. from the house. I have driven VIR. It is a great S2000 track. Neal Sapp won a T2 race there last year.

Hey guys-

Brock's killin' me...

Scott's S2000 is in GT2...

Jerry Sibley's S2000 is in GT1...

My GT-R is in GT2...

Perhaps Jerry's car is in the wrong category?

How does a 1986 Mustang get into Economy class? Is that possible? I never thought of a Mustang as being a gas sipper/fuel miser...

A 1988 M3 is in GT1... I feel sorry for it. Especially since there's a 1990 M3 in GT2.

1986 Porsche 944 Turbo in GT1... again, I think it's a GT2 car...

I think we're going to have some fun this year. I'm tired of swapping out turbos and engines for a week! Also- just thinking about all those threads about getting the "right" tires for the S2000, what were the Michelins like? Not as bad as the tire threads made it out to be when using other tires, I bet...

Hi Giampiero-

Your class is determined by various factors-

1. Type of vehicle

2. Foreign or domestic, current or vintage

3. PRICE!

So, you should be in a Sports/GT class- GT1 or 2, depending on price. The determining factor will be the C%D suggested pricelist for your car- over US$35K, it's GT2, under US$35K, GT2. Luckily for me, C&D priced my car at US$32K abck in 1991, which puts me squarely in GT2. Nowadays, a S2000 is more than that...

Haha! You'll be either up against the S2000s, RX-7s, Cobra Mustang and my GT-R, OR Vipers, Corvettes or M3s. I don't envy you!

If all works well, you should actually be gunning for the top ten spots overall- show those GT1 guys that we're not pushovers! Emmanuel Crouvisier finished 10th in the 1999 One Lap in a Caterham Super 7 against some pretty tough machinery (and as an amateur, under 20 year old driver), so it's possible.

Also- get your information out to One Lap ASAP. They will need it earlier than usual because Elaine, the organiser who does ALL the hard work there, is going on maternity leave soon.

Giampiero-

Did you check out the track schedule yet?

Lots of high speed stuff...

Watkins Glen

Mid Michigan (drag race- low e.t. and bracket)

MIS (REALLY high speed for 1/2 the track- it's on the oval!)

Heartland Park

Motorsports Ranch (I'll get you some details after this weekend)

Road Atlanta (enough said!)

VIR (last year the big track was VERY, VERY fast, small track was tricky braking up the hill after the front straight)

Then back to Watkins Glen.

I suggest you check out as many of the tracks before hand to prepare yourself, and get used to driving the Elise for long, long stints. You'll also have to pack well too- bring spares of all car consumables (oil, belts, brake pads/rotors/fluid, spare tire/wheel, spark plugs, spare brake lines, ANYTHING aftermarket that you installed that is part of the performance package of the car), clothing, etc. I think the GT-R will have a spare everything- I'm even preparing a spare transmission in Chicago just in case we have a problem at Mid Michigan so that we don't have to be down for more than one event (thank goodness MIS is only one event after Mid Michigan!). This race will test the parts like no other race- it is the hardest thing your car will do, and what can break WILL break- guaranteed.
