Default 2004 wheels and tires for autox

Well, now that we all know that the 2004 will come with 17's, 215/45 front and 245/40 rears, judging from the current selection of Hoosier tires (I assume that the s04 Hoosiers will generally be the same sizes), the new wheel size isn't gonna help. I'm assuming (based on what I've seen from Honda in the past) that by bumping up the wheel size and tire widths, they're gonna add half an inch to the rim widths. But looking at the Hoosier sizes, for 17's, we're gonna be stuck with the same 225/245 combo that we run on the 00-03 S2ks. I don't think that the half an inch more width is gonna allow us to run 245 fronts and 275 rears. Even if the 275s can fit ok, 275/40 hoosiers would be so tall that we'd prolly have major rubbing issues (at least with stock width wheels and offset). I was just going over the 2004 S2k info and seeing if there would be any clear advantages of the 2004 on paper. I thought mebbe wider rims would have helped, but that doesn't seem the case...

I think at this point we're gonna see the 2004 in BS. As most of the autox gurus are at Nats (I soooo want to be there...), we won't get their input til Sat...

I'm kinda breathing a lil easy, since it seems even if it does run BS, it doesn't look like it's leaps and bounds better, if at all.

The wider wheels will allow more of the tread to be used, even is the widths are the same. The 225 and 245 tires are pinched on the current size wheels.

I was wondering that same thing, only I was thinking about it more from the victoracer perspective, although it may not be that different. This past weekend I was looking at a 275/40/17 victoracer on an 8.5 inch rim (Boxter rear wheel). It fit but was tight, if the hoosier 275/40 is wider than the victo it may be too tight. If the offset is right I dont think the 275 will rub, the 265/45/16 victos are almost the same diameter as a 275/40/17 and they clear the fenders/wheel well easily.

I think Rylan has 275 Hoosiers on the rear of his car and hasn't flared the fenders. I don't know what offset he's using.

rylan also crammed 275 on oem wheels w/o rubbing

I can fit up to about 285-290 (street tire sizes) in the back of my s2k on 10" wheels.

275/40 should fit on the wheel. The question is if it will yeild much more contact patch than the 245. Your gearing will be taller which might hurt at auto-x.
