Driver weight does make a difference! I'm a big guy and every time I do karting at our local place I know part of the reason I'm not as fast as I could be is because of my weight. The guy 80-100lbs lighter than me has a huge advantage especially when you're talking low horsepower things like go-karts.

Yeah, thats the biggest reason as to why I haven't given karts any serious consideration.
S4 Spec Moto Shifter class, that's 30yrs and older 125cc Honda 6 speed. It's the largest class in shifter karts.
Minimum weight is 405 and the kart weighs in at about 205 to 210 so you could weigh 195 and be at min weight. There are a number of fast guys that are over.

I'm over that.
But I shouldn't say its the biggest reason. I really don't have any time/resources for another hobby. Tracking the s2000 is already such a guilty pleasure.[/quote]
You should come out to a practice or a race sometime. The performance level of a shifter kart is truly amazing compared with cars and its way more cost effective. The tracks are alot closer as well.
Great writeup Mike K.!
Congrats to all the personal bests and podiums that day!
It was great hanging out and talking shop with all the S2k drivers, if only for a 1/2 day.
The Time Trial session at the end is always great fun, too...hope we can keep doing it!
BTW Karting will definitely make you a better driver in any vehicle.
Unless you're running a real race series (where there are min weights), don't worry too much about your weight. You'll always find someone to dice with @ the kart track.
See you guys @ Streets...

Not being able to compete in Mod-R due to (relatively) minor damage to my S2K ended any hopes of a season podium finish for me. I was planning to run every event until the end of the season in the effort to finish the season in 3rd place, even though I don't like Streets of Willow (2 events at end of season). But now I don't have to, since it won't make any difference. I'll spend the money saved on entry fees, tires, and other consumables on a nice mod or two for next year.
