The 4th round of the Megan Racing S2000 Challenge was held once again at Buttonwillow raceway. Temperatures were cool in the morning and quick rose to a high of 88. This typically lends itself to Session 2 being the money session. However constant improvement and the urge to win proved to be the greater force. 13 participants signed up to battle it out in 4 classes. Although there were several other S2000’s spotted on track and around the paddock who opted out of the competition.
Stock Class:
With only one competitor Chris Gau showed consistent improvement throughout the day and brought his best laps in Black 4. Chris shaved 3 seconds off his morning time and finished the day with a 2:13.274. Congrats Chris!
Street Class:
With the 2014 Street Class points changes we saw some new faces on the podium. Kevin Chu used Orange 4 to set his fastest time. Kevin’s 2:06.536 was quick enough to take the 3rd spot. Second place went to Alex Doan. Alex used Red 3 to clock a 2:05.784 for the second spot. Climbing on the top of the podium for the first time was Ameer Ali. Ameer set his 2:03:192 in Red 3. Congrats to all the Street Class Competitors!
Mod Class:
Mod Class turned out to be where all the action was as 6 participants fought for the top spot. In 6th place on some really old RS3’s was John Tran. John slipped and slid his way to a 2:03.897 in Red 2. 5th place saw Mark Gabay set two back to back low 2:03’s in Red 2. His fastest was a 2:03.026. 4th place was Fabian Lacey. Fabian missed the podium by .039 with a 2:02.400. 3rd place was the wingless wonder JJ Jafry. JJ’s 2:02.361 was the fastest non aero time of the day. The top spot on the podium was just as tight of a battle with both competitors coming to grips with new aero and sticker Maxxis RC-1’s. Although Gary Yeung set his personal best lap in Red 1 his official Challenge fastest time of the day was the following session. Gary’s 1:59.832 was .027 of a second off the top spot. Top honors went to Jeff Ringer. Jeff quickly came to grips with his new aero and tire changes and set his fast lap, 1:59.805 in the morning session. Congrats to the Mod Class Competitors!

With temperatures rising Brian had almost conceded the victory. Late in Red 4 Brian put together his fastest lap of the day clipping Dustin by a tenth.
