Here's some good info about the new R-S3 v2 coming out... I so want to go back to the Kooks.

That's interesting Dave! I'll be buying two different sets this season if that happens.

I had a fun car on RS3s, Rivals didn't work on concrete with my car. I'm trying z2s and hoping the car works on all surfaces. I went softer on the rear spring, which will help also.

I've heard several people say that their car got pushier on z2s so I'm hoping that's true for me also. It seems I can easily make a car looser but it's a battle to make it pushier. Maybe I suck and just overdrive and to aggressive.

From what I remember from our initial testing and confirmed when Glagola was testing them on his STR s2k, the tread depth wasn't as much of an issue as the heat cycling. Maybe things have changed?

Do you recall about how many runs the R1R lasted before slowing?

The 235mm 17s seem like an interesting option for a local club with more than half the events either early or late in the year (relatively cold and at least 1 wet).

Thanks.
On my STR MX5, on 255/40/17 R1R's, on rough asphalt, they died, a horrible death, at 60 runs. But damn, were they fast. Which is why I am now back on R1R's, on STR MX5 #2. Set 1 is the 235/40/17, and they have been showing some serious speed. Set 2, 245/35/17, is being shipped as we speak. These won't last long, but should be even quicker than the 235's. I run a 5speed, so the shorter diameter will be very helpful coming off the slower corners. I wouldn't run the 245/35 on an AP2, at least not out west. If you run smaller courses, then you might want to try them for the big events.

Jeff -- couple of questions:

1. were those 255's shaved or run at full thread?

2. I assume you run a split run format with half your runs in a.m. and half in p.m.

3. At what temp. threshold were you spraying or did you just start spraying after the first run

If the RS3 compound goes towards colder weather, that may leave those of us in the Sunbelt without our favorite reason for loving the RS3: the way it handled heat.

The pro for the original RS3's was they accepted huge slip angles while giving great grip and heat resistance but suffered in cold, wet and where less responsive. For local or regional events were you run all your runs at once or where you may live in a hot climate, they thrived but for Nat's, even if you were running late after noon, if you have only 3 runs, it meant giving one run up and hoping you could trap the generated heat in the tire for the next run. If you don't have a co-driver, it could be 15-20 minutes between runs and no retained heat in the tires. That resulted in a major fail whereas for local events, they could be really effective.

Didn't shave them, that would be a bad idea with the 255's.

We, normally, run 1 timed run group. Sometimes we run split run groups.

I began by spraying them, realized I was wasting my time, and water, I no longer spray R1R's.

That's for the response. I've run virtually every UHP tire at one time or the other including two sets of 245/35-17 R1R's which I thought would offset my 3.07 diff ratio but could overwhelmed by excessive throttle input. I think your reported rear pressures you used very well may make the rear more stable. I'm leaning toward either 235/40 or 245/35 on 17"x9" wheels but also know there is a fair amount of tuning in order to setup the car for these tires.
