Bringing this thread back from the dead.

So what is the final verdict...

Current set up on MY '02:
Suspension: Koni's with eibach/GC lowered ~1"
Sway bars: Saner front bar on softest setting, OE rear
Alignment: Camber -2.0 F, -2.5R

Diameter of Toyo RA-1's is as follows:

Size Diameter
235/40-17 24.4
235/45-17 25.2
255/40-17 25.0
275/40-17 25.7

These are going on CE-28's.

Is it advisable to use the 235/40 size in the front to minimize rubbing? Will the difference in diameter for 235/275 cause the ABS to lock up sooner?

I am leaning toward the 235/45 and 255/40 with the saner bar. If I can squeeze the 275 in the rear, should I go back to the stock front bar?

Richard did you ever try the 235/275 combo?

Asura,

I'm running 225/275 combo on 18s (RA1s) on stock suspension and stock sway bars. Balance is very good IMO. Have not noticed anything different with ABS. With aggressive alignment settings, turn in is crisp and you really have to make the car understeer in order for the front end push.

What offset are your wheels? I wish they made a 225 for the 17's.

If anyone in the bay area needs it, they can rent my fender roller. bolts onto the hub and it'll give you a lot of clearance. email me for more info...

Any further input on the 235/275-17 RA-1s on the CE28Ns? I'm about to buy some tires. Currently running factory shocks, springs and Comptech adjustable front bar. Thanks.

275's are a lot of tire for the rear, so you are likely to get a lot of understeer even with a stock suspension, and more so with the comptech front bar (unless you can modify front camber to -4 or so). You are likely to also experience some rubbing both front and rear. I was advised to try the 235/45 front with the 255/40 rear, which I tend to agree should be a better combination as it will avoid the reduction in gearing with the taller 275's, no rubbing, and reduce understeer, especially with the comptech front bar. I am guessing that lap times would be equal if not faster.

225/255 combo works extremely well these rims with no rubbing and well balanced, but RA1' don't come in 225's.

i race with the 235/275 - 17 RA-1's and they are equal in lap time on Mugen rims to my 18's

i was 1sec off rylan and 2 sec off davepk on new RA-1's this sizw when they were on worn slicks thunderhill SV

BTW...there is a new toyo motorsports tire dealer in socal that will be your best price and service for both shaved and full tread ra-1s
pm me if need details

I run 235 and 275 RAs on CE28s and have no understeer issues.
