Default 275/40/17 nonstaggered?

I did a extensive search but didn't find much. I found a great deal on some rcomps in this size but wasn't sure if there would be any rubbing or fitment issues running these on my oem 4x rear wheels.

Has anyone run this? I know they will be taller but I am close to stock height.

I'm selling some BFG R1s in the members classifieds......

I didn't run them on OEM wheels but I'd say that 9" is the bare minimum. Really you need to be at 9.5.

I agree the performance drops off running on a narrower wheel but I have seen much wider tires on narrower wheels. Is the preferred autocross setup 245 front tire on a 7 inch wide wheel?

I'm running 275x4 A6's on 4 ap2 rears. Hopefully, I'll run the 949 17x10s next year. I use a 5mm spacer up front, and do get a tiny bit of rub at full lock. My car does not have fender liners, though, is only lowered a little under an inch, and I'm not afraid to take a hammer to areas that need 'persuasion' to make things fit. I've rolled all the fenders -- well, bent the lips flat with a pair of pliers, anyway. I probably could have gotten away without doing it, but I'm also running something in the -3 degrees of camber ballpark.

At the stock preparation level, people have tried 4x275/40-17 Hoosier A6 tires on the stock 17x7 front and 17x8.5 rear wheels. With the CR model, there is reportedly minimal rubbing of the front tires. With the standard stock suspension and a big fat front swaybar, I've been told there is a lot of rubbing on the front fender liner (likely both at the lip and the flat area directly above the top of the tire).

I love the 275 x 4 (Hoosier A6s) non-staggered setup on OEM wheels, but I will be trying the 245 x 4 setup next season. I have always recommended trying non-staggered. Get some good used A6s and give it a shot

Marc, I liked 245x4 a lot and may return to that setup this year.

Good to hear, everyone I have talked with running that setup prefers it. I must see what all the rave is about!

A possible benefit of 245 vs 275 for autocross could be heat. Narrower tires will come up to temperature faster. I have witnessed this in colder months where it is more significant. A good way to prove this is by timing laps on a skid pad.

Count me as another convert. I ran the normal 245/275 stagger for most of this year. I tried the 275 square after Toledo and liked it but it rubbed a bunch. I then tried the 245's and they are much more precise feeling but give the same overall balance. The precision that they offered really helped me place the car exactly where I want to and thus I find it a faster setup for my driving style.
