Post 29spec Time Attack Build

Oooosh, I am starting a full race car build on my AP1. I want to build it how I see fit so I wont be following NASA or SCCA rules. Instead I will adhere to Global Time attacks rules which don't put restrictions on weight or horsepower. I have some pretty lofty goals for the car. Last time I built a car I had one picture of it so this time I am going all out on the documentation process. Hopefully I can get some support along the way as I am going to need it to upset some of the bigger teams. Check out the links below.

2100lbs race weight for the car only should be feasible for the if you go all out but that will certainly land you into unlimited class rules so good luck! (gutted tunnel and A-pillars) I'm sure everyone would love a good old fashioned build thread.

I'm interested to see how this goes. Do you have a timeline you are trying to hit to be done (I know it's never done done)?

Do you have a high level list for how you plan on hitting the 2100lbs including adding a cage and safety gear to the car?

Gave you a follow on the 'gram, follow back or you're dropped. @j.j.kush

I won't watch your videos, sorry.

Why not a NASA or SCCA build or since you're in CA S2KChallenge build?

I don’t see how 2100lbs is feesible. My gutted, caged s2000 was 2700 lbs with lightweight hood, trunk, quarter panels with half a tank.

That's pretty hefty. what tubing did you use for the cage?

Pretty sure once you start cutting in the the unibody, you are heading for unlimited. Its very open to interpretation as per the language of the rule but tech inspectors would likely send you there with the amount of cutting needed for 2100lb weight.

You need to put that thing on a diet. Mine is 2420 with:
-not gutted A-pillars
-stock heavy brakes
-passenger seat & harness
-passenger side nascar bars
-lots of additional braces and crosses in the rear of the cage
-triangulated braces going up to the front damper houses
-heavy trunk and wing setup
-non stripped sealer/underbody coatings
-not optimally gutted doors
-steel bodied dampers
-no fuel cell
-heavy plywood splitter and steel brackets
-and the only carbon on the car is the top

Edit: the car is also K swapped with a heavy flywheel, adapter plate, and steel motor mounts.

Thats pretty good given the stuff you mentioned. What are some of the things you did to save weight?

My car is prepared to the SCCA EP racing rules and is at the 2450# minimum weight with 225# of me, 5# of ballast, a gallon of fuel and 10 qts total oil (2 in accusump). There is still more weight that I can remove with a lighter battery, lighter hood, gutting A-pillars, and other metal removal. I don't need to reduce weight except to remove it from up higher and add ballast for balance. SCCA does not allow for removal of the trunk. I would think that 2100# should be achievable if rules don't apply.
