Default 4 Pt. Harness Install

Before my next track event, I'd like to install the Bitterman bar and a 4 pt. harness. 2 questions:

1) Can the stock seatbelt anchor points be used with the lap-belts of a 4 pt. harness?
2) Is there any danger in using the stock seat with a 4 pt harness (angle of the shoulder harness issues?)?

since you are having the bitterman bar, i think you shouldn't have a problem of the 4 pt. harness pushing your back into the seat and thus making your head line above the stock roll bar.

it will be great if you can post some pic

I used the stock seatbelt mounts for mine. You can get a longer bolt or remove a spacer to make room for the mount. I also looped the shoulder harnes around the stock roll bar. Not the best arrangement but it works for the moment.

The problem with the lap belt is the female attachment is mounted on the seat and not the frame of the car.

I've been told this by others as well. How do you mount the center strap? I think it will be problematical with the stock seat. However, I'll be using a Sparco seat mounted to a Taitec sliding rail kit. Is it acceptable to mount the center belt to the front cross piece of the rail kit? I was thinking to just loop the belt webbing around the cross rail that is 1.5" wide 1/4" steel.

it's safer b/c you don't get squashed into the seat by tightening down the shoulder straps. It shouldn't be a problem mounting the 5th point (I'll be running 2 leg as opposed to 1 crotch strap) to the seat mounting bolts or the next sturdiest point of the rail. I'm running eye bolts for the lap belts which are sandwich bolted down.

I'd be very careful with that, you could kill yourself in a roll-over. The plastic surrounding the roll hoops is not sturdy and after taking apart the plastic for roll cage construction, the factory roll hoops are a mere spaghetti noodle surrounded by ballons(the plastic covers). So the plastic would collapse and you would either be thrown from the car or be seriously injured, take your pick. Also, the angle of the shoulder belts is very importantant. If you have the belts secured too high or too low, you could be seriously injured as well. You're safer in the stock 3 pt seat belts even though you might move around more in the seat at auto-x or track events.
Well said, I would only NOT use the stock 3 point if I had a cage/bar and properly mounted 5/6 point harness, if you dont have both of those, stick with the OEM 3 point, its safer.

The 5th and/or 6th strap wouldn't work at all with the stock seat. I'd rather take my chances in a rollover with the Bitterbar and a 4 pt. (bolted in properly) than the stock setup. I'll worry about the seat and the submarine straps after everything else is in.

I've been in two accidents with 4 pt. harnesses--one as a passenger in a Landcruiser and one on the street in a 914. Zero injuries both times.
