Default Another STR Convert

Well, I bought my AP1 last June and absolutely loved running it in B Street for the season. Ended up a fraction of a point out of 1st in the class locally and had a great time with it. Even told myself "I dont need to even mod this thing. Just keep running the Saner bar and enjoy running it in BS". Well that lasted until about January and the mod bug took over. So, I moved it to an STR setup, keeping it a tad milder (800/650 spring rates) so I can still enjoy it on the street in the summer. I instruct at our yearly autocross novice school locally and got to take it out for some runs during instructor runs yesterday and was very pleased. The setup really feels good, car is more neutral and grip is incredible. It was also a good chance to try out the brand new ZII Star Specs, which did not let me down one bit. It was about 60 degrees and damp for a bit, so I havent had the tires on a hot course or at Lincoln on the concrete yet though.

800F/650R Hyperco's
Moddiction FSB
Revalved konis
Koni sleeves
TR Motorsports 17X9's
Dunlop ZII Star Specs
Oh .... and swapped the side markers to clear ... obviously the most impactful change for autox

So in the spirit of "no pics it didnt happen":

Before

After

Thanks for that. Sorry about the misplaced thread. Probably does belong more here since it is not the typical mod my S thread and is more focused on autox.

You lasted at stock longer than I did. I stayed stock for about 2-3 months before I said to hell with it.

The hood gap is slightly off along the front edge, which I think is actually caused by the bumper cover being slightly out of place. I havent gotten around to figuring that one out yet. It normally is not that noticeable but from that angle it shows up more. I also adjusted the hood stops because they were too low and got one too high. Was in a hurry and hadnt fixed it when I took that. So in addition to the gap being off the height was too on that side.

I would recommend crack or heroin to autocrossing in STR...much less addictive. Welcome!

It reminds be of Steve Bucemi short speech in Con Air:

Garland Greene: What if I told you insane was working fifty hours a week in some office for fifty years at the end of which they tell you to piss off; ending up in some retirement village hoping to die before suffering the indignity of trying to make it to the toilet on time? Wouldn't you consider that to be insane?

Here we have:

Its addictive to get up early Sunday morning, drive 1-2 hours each way to spend the day baking in a sea of black asphalt in order to drive hard for about 4 minutes at speeds that would get someone pulled over for going too slow on most Interstates?

That pretty much sums it up But it is still addictive nonetheless. I guess drag racing also falls into that, only you get to go a bit faster but for even shorter amounts of time !

Of course, without watching the other cars, competition and hanging with car people all day, it would not be as fun.
