Default Any experience with HAWK CERAMIC pads

I tried the search and couldn't find any opinions on the ceramics.

I am debating between the HPS, Hawk ceramic and the HP+.

I do a great deal of aggessive driving in the mountains and a couple track days a year.

I am looking for good initial bite with good fade resistance. Quiet and low dust are nice as well.

Do the Hawk Ceramic pads perform better than the HPS?
A big concern is how bad is rotor wear with the HP+? I am using a custom made 2 piece slotted rotor on the front stock rotor on the rear

Thanks for the help.

Good bite, Hawk and low dust don't go together as a rule.

Pick any two.

We've been selling a lot of the Hawk Blues lately while waiting for the new Cobalt pads to be available. They work pretty well but the dust is hell.

HPS is a stree pad, unsuitable for the track.

HP+ works ok for a track newbie but if you're a good driver you'll be beyond the capabilities of those as well. Not recommended for the street due to noise and dust.

No info on the ceramic pads though, sorry.

I went through 4 sets of the HP+ on my RSX. Ferocious initial bite but hard to modulate, also very noisy, and as already reported, major dust. Ok for novices like me at the track, but very difficult to live with on the street due to noise. Also very hard on rotors. You'll notice some fade at the end of a 20 min. run session, sooner if you're in the higher run groups.

In my experience, the best compromise pad between street and track - for a novice - was the Cobalt GT Sport. Some noise but greatly diminished with generous helpings of Disc Brake Quiet. Good modulation and some dust but not damaging. You will notice some fade at the end of a 20 min session and they will leave blotches on the rotors when overheated. However, this goes away after a few days of normal driving.

I gave up on trying to find the perfect pad for street and track. I now run Axxis Ultimates for street and canyons and Spec VR's up front on track days. This has worked perfectly for me.

Sorry, no 411 on the Hawk ceramics, but I'm curious to learn more about them too.

^ I find the same thing with the HP+ as well. I find the initial bite to be too high for my liking, and that it is difficult to modulate the braking as a result.

Next season I will upgrade to something different as I feel they are not enough either.

I am going to give the Endless CC-R pad a try. At my local track many people have had good experience with them. They are very pricy though

Hawk HT10 fronts have worked great for me on the race car, with blues in the rear.

Great feedback,

I am planning on getting these for the front. Pagid Black RS 4-2-1 Brake Pads
they are a little expensive, but are suppose to be a great compromise.

Used blue and HT10 before. Totally not recommending blue for anyone. It doesn't brake any better than HT10 and it basically killed my new rotor in 1 trackday. plus the time and effort to clean up all the mess afterwards.

CCR is great too but having some noise and very harsh to rotors.

Only best track pad I used is AP Lockheed ZC and ZR. Need to buy from overseas, very pricy, but really stop like a dime, 50-850C heat range, no noise, gentle to rotors, perfect for street use too. tons of brake dust but very easy to clean off not like hawks dust that totally stick onto the car.

I just got XP-10s - F and XP-8s - R for laguna seca.

1 - is a race pad for a rookie overkill at a track like laguna?
2 - how long do these pads take to damage the rotor's (assuming properly bedded)?

1) Yes. In fact, I run XP8s all around at tracks that are tougher on brakes than Laguna. I do have front brake ducting, FWIW.

2) I wouldn't know, my rotors always heat cycle out before they show much wear at all.
